EU4 crashes after pressing play on laucher

Good evening,

I am having issues starting EU4 on a new computer: The game launcher starts and works fine, however when I press Play, the launcher disappears as it should, but the starting game automatically crashes and leaves that error window:

I've tried clean full reinstalls, changing resolution and windowed mode, checked my antivirus and firewall

Also Steam installs DirectX at every launch trial calling it "first time launch", I don't know if this has any relevance.
I tried making CK2 as well as comparison and it also refuses to start. All other games for now worked perfectly fine.

What antivirus app do you use? Add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.


Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

(run dxsetup.exe after extracting from this download)

It worked, it seemed Steam had troubles with the directX installation. Thank you for your help !
