That is already the case (and has been since release), it's just visible now. :)

I'm...a bit surprised to read you saying this actually. It isn't true.

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...s-Don-t-Scale-with-Large-Countries&highlight=

Until patch 1.5, the peace cost from taking provinces was capped at ~400%, so if you fought Ming in 1444, you could take a ton of provinces initially, then fewer as they became smaller. Patch 1.6 *removed* this, and it is *not* the case in 1.6 or 1.7.

Patch 1.6 is also the patch that (erroneously) claimed that peace costs scale down against coalitions. In reality, patch 1.6 and 1.7 have removed all scaling entirely.

Now, from my posted bug thread:

Sorry, this isn't a bug and is actually an intended change. I just didn't know about it.

Keeping in mind that:

- Province scaling changes of this nature were not documented in 1.6 patch notes, aside from the erroneous claim that they scale with coalitions
- Obidobi was the first person associated with PI to acknowledge the change whatsoever, 1 month after the bug report, and stating quite clearly it was intentional.

Was it not intentional after all? No matter how you slice it, these messages aren't consistent :/.

The wiki on this has not changed since 1.5 and should be considered inaccurate: http://www.eu4wiki.com/War_score#Province_cost

You're incorrect, TheMeInTeam. Scaling was tweaked but not removed. Province warscore costs have been tweaked for 1.8, especially for local trade power as ICoTs, Estuaries and such are far too expensive to take in 1.7.

Another Developer Diary another list of questions about modding some of the new features;

* Can we create Client States by event?
* If not can we script any part of the AI's willingness to create them? For instance by applying a Province Modifier which increases the likelihood?
* How are Client States denoted to make them 'More Loyal'? Is there a new government type like with Colonial Nations or do they just have an Opinion Modifier applied? If so, can we make them no longer Client States by changing them to a new Government type or removing that modifier? Would we be able to change them to say, Colonial Nations by applying the correct Government Type? Because if so that would let me make an interesting and realistic Colonial Nation creation system for once.
* Can Client States be made into Marches?
* If Client States are denoted by a Government can we create multiple types of Client State Government Types to reflect the differences between, for instance, a Border March such as the Austrian Military Frontier and a slightly more autonomous Client State like the Revolutionary Sister Republics?
* Can Province War Score cost be modified by Province Modifiers? How about Governments/Country Modifiers?
* For Local Autonomy can we modify the default rate of increase or decay, ideally letting me set the yearly tick to 0 and making it entirely event driven?

Oh no....it looks like Korea has taken a significant nerf....Paradox for shame. Do not fall prey to the Korean nationalists who believe Korean culture to be significantly separate from that of Chinese influence. Nay, it is not different during this time frame, and the idea of a "Korean" state had barely existed until King Sejong took up the mantle of Uniting Korea as a Korean entity for the first time in history, sparking the traditions of modern Korea. Before this time there were no significant differences between Chinese and Korean culture. FOR SHAME PARADOX.

Korean and Chinese are unrelated languages and Chinese influence there didn't start until the Han as I recall. Not to minimize Chinese influences on Korean culture (at least partial Sinicization was ubiquitous east of India), but it's not like China-Korea is analogous to Danish-Swedish.

This expansion is going to be freaking great! But there is one thing I'd like to know: is there a possibility that you can change the name of your country (like you can in CKII)? Given that now you can basically create new countries out of the blue, changing the name of you realm could be feasible.

I'd say a ~600% shift in war score is more than just a "tweak"! Perhaps there is scaling of a tiny magnitude that is difficult to observe, but saying that province scaling has been there since release is misleading at best. 1.6 change was a very drastic alteration of scaling, and even fighting into coalitions of 1000+ tax you won't get a noticeable increase in what you can take in the peace deal. Forgive me if I'd concluded scaling vs large countries had been removed entirely, as opposed to just being reduced to the point where the difference between province cost calculation for Bengal and Ming isn't perceptible :/.

I'm glad to hear the scaling is getting another look though. I guess it would have to given the map changes.

Anybody else notice that if warscore costs are related to local autonomy you could potentially siege a country that is 101% annexation until it drops below the bar ? In theory if every 5% local autonomy is 1% WS cost a five year siege could drop the cost of a 101% country to a mere 100%

The cultural relationship betwen Korea and China is very similar to that between China and Japan. That is, before entering China's cultural orbit, Korea was already an agricultural society, but not a literate one. As a result, the spoken language is mostly independent of Chinese but the written language has a huge amount of influence (although less since Korea switched away from Hanja). Likewise the philosophy of Korea is heavily influenced by Chinese philosophy, especially Confucianism, but Confucianism is not as dominant of a cultural feature as outsiders think (most notably, despite supposedly being Confucian societies, both Korea and Japan had feudal aristocracies, which was strongly disfavored in Confucianism).

If the AI can be tricked into giving more autonomy, what's the over-under on some of use coming up with ways to make it do so quickly :p?

Rhine federations! Woo Hoo!

This is truly first expansion-worthy DLC released for EU4 and CK2. I applaud.

Questions:

Allied Transports: Can players board AI transports?

Client State: Would AI utilize this or is it player-only feature(I hope AI uses it too)

Improved Battle Displays: Could you add a number that displays total troops and their losses? It always take 10~15 seconds to sum all 6 numbers.

Yes, I'd be quite interested in seeing how it was in 1.5 vs 1.6 (when the change was made). Is this value in the defines to look? Try as I may, I can't think of any way to identify actual scaling in game, aside from the obvious climb in war score for Ming from 400% --> 998%.

You're incorrect, TheMeInTeam. Scaling was tweaked but not removed.

Can you give us any insight into the current scaling mechanism?

I've done some cost-of-province comparisons for countries I've cut down over time (i.e., check a province's cost when the country as a whole is 1,000%, 700%, and 500%) and haven't been able to discern any scaling whatsoever.

Either way, happy to see that it's back (or at least larger, appears to be about a 6% effective cost reduction even for a relatively small France) and that we'll be able to see the exact determinants of province WS.

From the SS though, the detail adds up to 20.5% WS, while the tootip shows 19%, so it seems there is also some rounding going on somewhere. I can get there in this SS if WS items are rounded down (so +0.2 becomes 0 and -1.3 becomes -2).

Looks like province WS before size-scaling is (5 + 2*BT + 2*BMP + 0.2*TP + 0.5*Fort Lvl)*(1- Autonomy).

1.0-1.1.3 had warscore cost drop due to occupation, up to half the cost if it was occupied for 5 years. EU3 had the same.

After DDR Jake realized that if you combined this with a CB that gave 50% warscore cost you could annex any nation regardless of size, the feature was removed. It's nice to see it back.

Hello! Are there any incoming improvements for the territory of modern Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia (and other Eastern European Baltic states) in charge? For now Lithuania, Ruthenia, PLC, Livonian and Teutonic Orders are less detained than West Africa and Mid-Asia, coming close to Siberia )))

Also some notable nations require own NIs instead of generic: Georgia, Ukraine/Ruthenia, Mesoamericans or Belarus.

For some curious here is the map of XVII century:

I really wish people would back off with their nationalism. I WANT THINGS FOR MY COUNTRY. This is by far the most negative, and annoying element of the community, and something that makes it totally and utterly obnoxious to even post here. As a long time user of the forum, and long before the larger droves of people I strongly disdain this entire situation that has become increasingly more common.

People should advocate for things that the game actually needs like non-import related Aztec , Incan, and Mayan national ideas.
