That wasteland tumor in Badiyat Ash Sham is disgusting.

I love it. That area has terrible gameplay, and adding a wasteland there is just perfect.

To be honest, incentives to not annex vassals would be kind of nice. Currently the only reason you leave them around is because you want to, not because it's strategically the better choice.

To be honest...giving/selling a released 2PM-Norway vassal *all* of Scandinavia over the course of several wars a couple games ago and not annexing them saved me a huge amount of Admin and Diplo points I could spend to do other stuff with (buildings, culture conversion, coring) *and* created a very nice looking Europe in the process. But yeah, these two factors are the only incentives to keep vassals "alive", as of now - the monarch point save is more relevant when you're not western tech though.

Wastelands never bothered me in terms of gameplay, but it visually is awful. Imagine owning all of Arabia, zooming out, and just seeing a giant gray tumor in the middle of your Arabian Empire.

Granted that already happens, but I think it's going to be more prominent now.

How does adding a wasteland improve the gameplay there, by the way?

Wastelands are pretty awful looking, but in this case, I really think it's a good idea. The area is huge and has substantial travel times, and it's a desert, so attrition is awful. Way too often you end up back-and-forths over that area that are just frustrating. It's not valuable, it's not useful, and it creates bad gameplay, so I'm pretty happy with it becoming wasteland.

A solution I've seen proposed that I've always liked is to, if a nation completely surrounds (or controls all adjacent habitable land provinces) a wasteland, the wasteland would be "painted" the color of the nation that has surrounded it.

Presumably because the current provinces there take forever to cross, have horribly supply limits, and are of no real value.

Johan, could we please get National Ideas for Mesoamerican countries? I have repeatedly asked why didn't CoP give them those or why weren't they there in the first place. Aztecs are even involved in one (well, pretty hard) achievement on those grounds there really should be NIs for them, as other smaller and underdog nations in terms of the achievements have those too.
I think even trying to achieve it would be much more enjoyable with own national ideas.

30 years War: Unique mechanics and events for the religious conflict that ravaged Europe.

Napoleonic Era: Fight for or against the revolution and create entirely new custom clientcountries on the map from your conquests.

Fighting with Armies: You can now sortie from sieges, transfer occupation to allies and give objectives to your subjects and allies.

Fighting with Ship: Entire Fleets can now be upgraded with one click, you can now mothball fleets to avoid paying maintainance, and your fleets can be set to automatically transport armies.

Marches: Turn your vassals into bulwarks against your enemies, getting less tax but strengthening their defences.

Improved Diplomacy: Sell Surplus Ships, Fight for your subjects CB, Declare War in Support of Rebelfactions in other countries and new peace options like give up claims and pay monthly war reparations.

Gameplay Enhancements: Build entire armies in one click, abandon cores that you no longer wish to fight for, and abandon entire ideagroups that are no longer useful to your nation.

Free Features for the accompanying patch includes: Completely new rebel mechanic, local autonomy on province level, new cardinalsystem for Catholics, new reformation mechanics and a huge map improvement, making the rest of the world as detailed as Europe is. Lots of interface, ai and gameplay enhancements.

When it comes to the map, we've worked closely with the best map-modders in the community, and this will completely revolutionise how you play outside of Europe. Here are a few sneakpreviews of how the map looks like right now. Every daydiary, from next friday until release will go into detail about one part of the new map, while talking about paid and free features at the same time.

We have also done some significant optimisation, so the game performance should not be impacted by this addition.

So, let's analyze this part by part:

- Fight for or against the revolution, which would mean, that you have to pick sides? You can possibly even launch a revolution in your own country in response to the French one? Creating satellite states sounds like what the French did during the Coalition Wars. Anyone not knowing about that can easily read about it.

- 30 Years War: Unique mechanics and events? - Events I get, but mechanics? Perhaps mechanics, which won't let the war end, but let other Great Powers take part in it, in case, the Emperor has already won? And will those mechanics and events only fire, if you select the 30YW start date or will the 30 YW fire automatically now?

- Army coordination should work better now since you caneven control the strategies of your allies. I wonder, if the AI will coordinate the same way.

- Entire fleets can be upgraded, which means, ships don't become outdated any longer? Mothball sound pretty clear, but automatical army transport? Can't imagine, what that would mean.

- Vassals were always a meatshield, cause their provinces being occupied wouldn't have a negative impact on your country.

- Improved Diplomacy, well this sounds interesting. Selling ships I dunno how it would work. What would determine, if a country buys your ships? Would England buy the old fleet of France? I don't think so. Would Russia do? Why would Russia want a fleet? Who would buy an old fleet? Or can you sell them to pirates or private merchants? Fight for you subjects CBs hmhm... could that be exploited? For example, Ming has been eaten by Russia, England takes the last province of Ming, turning Ming into his vassal. Now England can declare war on Russia reclaiming entire China? Rebelfactions support and new peace options sounds good, especially the reparation feature has been missing since the game was released.

- Build armies in one click, mhm, abandon cores (I hope, this will have a huge prestige impact), and abandon idea groups (this should result in a -6 stability drop and slowed down research)

- new rebel mechanic sounds pretty good (perhaps depending on culture, tech etc. of the province), local autonomy (this must be the internal stuff), new cardinal system (I guess, more ways to interact with it, buying a foreign cardinal even after he has become a cardinal, murdering (?), forcing own cardinals to do stuff (?)), new reformation mechanics (perhaps it spreads faster now?)

AND

NEW MAP IMPORVEMENT. Oh hell, this was necessary, but I'm not sure, how it will effect the game. Surely, world conquest will take longer now. But won't this result in many countries focusing on an African colonization?

I seem to recall one of the devs stating that Central and South America deserve their own DLC, on the scale of CoP, but I can't find where that was said.

Just being able to walk through that land is useful to a nation who has territory on both sides of it. If you get rebels to spawn on one side of it, before you could just walk through it and go deal with the rebels. Now you have to walk around it, and that potential increased travel time could be the difference between that province falling or lasting long enough for you to get there.

Of course, for all I know it could be the same amount of time traveled but you have to walk around it instead, in which case the scenario is harder to set up due to needing more provinces than before.

Yes, I'am one of them. Yesterday I was disappointed but today it seems quite exciting.

It's better to wait for more informations. I think it will be the same with CK2: Charlemagne. Everyone complains...But I will wait for more informations today.

This is really needed, I can't imagine anyone playing aztec/inca with the plain boring default NI's, just a set of unique NI's for aztec/maya/inca (they can be the same as the ones in the CK2 converter, even though these are quite powerful) and one or two general NI's for central american and south american countries would be awesome !

Wastelands never bothered me in terms of gameplay, but it visually is awful. Imagine owning all of Arabia, zooming out, and just seeing a giant gray tumor in the middle of your Arabian Empire.

That would be fixed if PI added something like "claim wasteland" option IMO: you don't own the province, but it has your color.

How does adding a wasteland improve the gameplay there, by the way?

You need to go around rather than through it., thus slowing down your armies a bit and affecting whom you border. Nothing major, but still.

Haha... Yesterday: "Meh, what a bad DLC:.. We don't need more war!"

And today everyone: "Yeah! Take my money, yeah!"

Yesterday everyone here was complaining... Just like with CK2: Charlemagne. Because the people don't wait for more informations.

Yep, exactly my thoughts bro :p Well, looking forward to what Charlemagne brings us.
