They really shouldn't do that. It is that way to use most of the map for useful provinces. Making the Americas correctly placed would mean a lot of new provinces in the sea south of South Africa and in Northern Canada. It would also either have to increase the map size to make it possible to sail around South America, or make all the continents "shorter".

Extra wasteland/sea shouldn't slow the game down that much. Also, the northern stuff only takes up so much space because they're using something like a Mercator projection.

Alternatively, there's the approach they took with the EU3 map, which has a bit of a curve to it, but at least avoids any sudden misalignments.

Please for once, delay a release so we wont get another Japan bug.
Since 1.4. we had one patch which was used as a balance patch. Im going to buy this expansion anyway, but the frequency of new content compared to pre-CoP is frightening. Here is hoping you will try to focus more on balance in the future. High general roll equaling a 20 tech advantage in pips, is completly imbalanced and doesnt do the game any good.
Im still excited for this.

Extra wasteland/sea doesn't really slow the game down that much. Also, the northern stuff only takes up so much space because they're using something like a Mercator projection.

Alternatively, there's the approach they took with the EU3 map, which has a bit of a curve to it, but at least avoids any sudden misalignments.
The projection they use in EUIV is a modified Miller cyllindical, which again is a modified Mercator. Even though adding more wasteland and sea zones doesn't cause much slowdown, it takes away pixels from useful places, like Asia, rest of NA, SA, Europe and Africa, just to add wasteland in Canada. Why does people want smaller provinces elsewhere or a larger map (which uses more memory) just for that?

The EUIII map projection is very ugly, and I really hope they don't use that. Ever. The projection they use in EUIV is the same as in Victoria II and it is the same as they will use in HoI IV. It is here to stay for a while, and if they ever make a Victoria III, I hope they use the exact same map as in Victoria II, without the fancy graphics in EUIV and CKII. Victoria II is the best looking Paradox game, and adding stuff like heightmaps would break that.

Wonderful!!!!!!!

But, why? Making decisions which can't be changed later is fun. The player must assume some responsibility.
It's not exactly a decision to be made lightly, though. Each idea group is a 2800 MP investment (assuming no idea cost reductions). About the only case I can think of in which it would be beneficial to actually drop an idea group and its benefits is Exploration, and even then, only after either colonization is completely done (no colonizable provinces left) or at the least, your colonization goals are done.

To be honest, incentives to not annex vassals would be kind of nice. Currently the only reason you leave them around is because you want to, not because it's strategically the better choice.

Another reason to leave them is because they often manage a larger army than a player would with those provinces and because they can fight your (minor) wars for you without having to increase maintenance. I mostly keep 1-2 medium-huge sized vassals around to 'protect' me, especially if I have free relation slots. I indeed hope some more incentives are added.

I think this is a huge problem. The only way I can actually give local autonomy and have a sense of an empire that would actually be controllable in some sense (and doesn't look dull) is the HRE, by adding everything to HRE and releasing vassals at Remove Privilegia..
This should be modeled somehow to avoid insane expansion by vassalizing every little nation next to you with no penalties. Also, on internal affairs, it would be cool if some vassals would revolt, I've never seen anyone declaring independence in any of my games, not for me and not for AI.

A large AI army is sometimes worth less than a smaller directly controlled one.

But now that we can give objectives to allies this will makes vassal armies a lot more useful.
