I think numerous people above have explained why. :)

When were Italy and Germany united?;) Even in WWII they were not united - they were allies but not united!

But seriously - the things you mentioned are what a lot of people would like to see (or have the chance to see). But that is another game not an extension of EU II. In a poll way back in time the 1820-1914 timeframe got a lot of votes for being the next game for Paradox to produce. So it might happen. And it might be better than EU II. But it would be another game not an update of EU II. Most of the folks who want an EU III are looking for refinements/reworking of some of the unrealistic abstractions of the game as it is - not just a "slap another 100 years on and see if that makes it better" game.:)

erm people remember
those who want an 1820-1914 look at the age of nationalism! i dont think paradox would do it if there is a perfectly good mod out.
there is also modern day and 1914-1991 scenario's who are trying to include new unit sprites. there is unlikely to ever be an eu3. HOI2 or a cold war variant yes but not an eu3

as far as i know, the HoI engine , which was based on the EU engine, will be much better to use to implement Age of nationalism or a Modern Day Game. :D
so i prefer to have a HoI 2 from 1820 - 1930 (personally i will like more if it is 1900-1930, but too many people want 100 years, so... ) than a EU3.

I´d definitely rather see an EU3, (see: 3!:D ) than a HoI2. There are too many WWII games as it is, and too few within the EU timeframe. Of course, what I´d most like is a game about ancient Greece. (Alexander wrestling Hephaestion. Yummy.:D )

I think there is already a WWE game out. You can probably change the names of the wrestlers to whatever you want.:D

There as to be an EU3!!!
Not so soon as we've seen EU2 come out, but in good time, and maby with a new engine, it will be needed :)

But do not extend the time frame. Apart from the military point of view, the concept of the game is covering the periode where Europe made it's impact felt on the rest of the world after waking up from the dark ages, not an history reenactment tool, altough that would be fun. :D
And anyway people, do you really expect to get a WWI when you start a game in 1400? My games turn out very different from history as it is.

As for improvements...
The culture idea was a good addition for me, but it as to be dynamic than just with events. Cultures is hard to change, but if a goverment decides to assimilate a culture, he as the right to at least try!

Be careful with too much provinces. It's Ok if you are playing Bavaria, but it becomes hell when playing Spain, France or England.

Permanent Terra Icognita that fades depending on the infrastructure level instead of time. That would limit too big exploration of regions that were inacessible too early. Or allowing exploration but limiting colonies.

Diplomacy rating wider than +-200, say +-500, or even +-1000, so you can really piss someone off!

There is no such thing as a "perfectly good mod" that tries to apply EU to another time period. EU is intended to be a historical simulation of the early-modern era and is very successful at that. However, it can never be remotely as good at simulating another time period as a game made expressly for that period. I, for one, would be extremely disappointed if Paradox decided against making a 19th century game on the basis of there already existing an amateur EU modification.

Why 1900-1930? By 1930 the WWI action is over, its time to prep for WWII. A better time period would be 1900-1920, this would make for a killer game: The Great War, Diplomacy, Colonization, Imperialism... Mmm...
Maybe 1880-1930 if you want more years, and less of a 'HoI in WWI' game (ie. first half prep for war, second half fight war)

My Thoughts

A game that goes 1400-1850 NOW 450 YEARS OF GAME PLAY!!! So ending just before alot of the industrial problems rise up. Less Tp as even in EU2 times areas like Mongolia were known (well atleast to the Chinese:rolleyes: ). That said better diplomacy and SMALLER TERRITORIES ACROSS THE BOARD would as be much better allowing for more accurate maps....(also fix the Russia area --> Novogrod next to Moscow.. What?)... This is all I see for an improved EU2...and it would help alot...

But I really see Paradox's future in making a game covering time periods before 1066.... I realistic grand simulation for every time period.... its time has come.

If and when paradox decides to make a Europa 3, then I think that it should go from 1419-1919 to incorperate World War one and the end of Imperial orders, pretty much. Also, it I think that a good screen view would be to add an ethnic view to the already established normal, political, and economic views. This would be helpful, and to improve the play and accuracy in the game I think there should be certain events that will make you declare war on another nation, or alliance.

Why stop at 1919? Why not model the game after CTPII and have the game continue ad nauseam into an implausible future, where cyborgs and super-spies battle laser-firing satellites for the possession of Ragusa?

No offense, but I kind of like the game as it is....cleverly framed around the Renaissance & the baroque. If Paradox increases the scope of this game too much, it'll lose all its original flavor and cease being EU entirely. If that happens, then Paradox will have no one to dedicate their next game to because there won't be any EU fans left at all.
