EU3 - who's carrying it in Canada?

EU3 on Gamersgate does have a manual in PDF format.

And i agree that it is not nice that no chain store in Canada is carrying it.

P.S. I am moving back to my beloved homeland in May. Maybe we can get an MP game going?

I'd be into a MP game corey, never playing any Pdox games in MP though so I'd be a bit of a newb/pushover most likely for the first few games (being used to the AI after all these years)

Time difference might be a problem though, Im 3 hours behind eastern time.

this is the first time a Paradox game has been completely unknown in Canada on the release date.

Yepp, I can understand the stores not having it yet but none of them have it in their computer systems as being available, or being shipped etc.

Previous Paradox titles were always listed in their systems but just took some time getting to the stores.

In this case the ball that got dropped is "a little blue planet with endless possibilties"

I think this comes down to an oversight in marketing. Since we no have any nation wide canadian owned computer/software stores and exclisive deal in the states like the CE available from target only is going to really hurt us. US distributors are not likely going to want to deal with a product that they can only sell in canada, they are going to want to deal with products they can sell in both markets. Yet I can't see paradox passing up an exclusive marketing deal with a US company just because they don't deal with canada. The money is too good for them to pass up on the exclusive deals.

I am not surprised that we are having great difficulty getting the game. Ever since Victoria I have found it increasingly hard to find Paradox titles. Perhaps this is a result of losing a canadian specific distributor. I don't know. I just hate that the game is "invisable" in canada. I really didnt expect to have to buy the from paradox. I would have waited to buy it in store if I could have found any company that had the game listed somewhere in canada & I just had to wait for it to reach stores but who ever was incharge of marketing must have just assumed that Canada & the US markets where the same.

Mine was shipped from Paradox last Wednesday or Thursday and has not yet arrived (though today's post hasn't come in yet). I'll let you know when it gets here (GTA) which should give you a rough idea. I would think that a week or ten days wouldn't be out of the question, knowing Canada Post.


EDIT: the mail has arrived, the game hasn't. Oh well...maybe tomorrow.

That has not been my experience in Vancouver. I Got Diplomacy from the store the day of the release. I didn't try to buy doomsday so I cant speak to that.

Well... I hate to say it (since it's a bit off-topic ) but gamersgate is the way of the future. With box stores carrying fewer PC game titles, digital distribution is going to become all the more important as a channel for niche titles (and EU3 is a niche title if there ever was one... maybe not as bad as Pro Curling though )

What I'm trying to say is... who cares whether it's in the store or not. Go digital, or order direct. I don't quite see what the issue is?

1. Some of us dont have access to high speed internet. This is much more prevalent than you think.

2. Some of us dont have access to a credit card.

3. Some of us are collectors who like to have a nice box and nice paper manual and all the nice goodies that come along with it

Since Paradox did not offer a CE downloadable version we are left with having to go to a chain store to get it.

And now it appears that some of us in Canada won't even have the opportunity to go to a store and get even the regular version of it.

Thats the big deal.

I'll have to admit I had the same problem trying to track this game down in Vancouver, and I *HATE* waiting. Let me suggest my blunt force -- albeit extreme -- solution. You can just buy TWO copies! I bought one from Gamersgate and I'll order a Collectors Edition from the Paradox store once I get paid early next week. Granted... I'll be handing off the digital copy to a friend of mine as a "gift" but at least by the end I'll have what I was looking for. (also... if anyone is looking for someone else to play multiplayer games with I'll be more than ready to do so in about an hour or so. =D)

The ideal (for us, anyway, maybe not Paradox) solution to the randomness of the postal system would be for Paradox to allow us to pay extra to get the download AND boxed copy. Of course, this is a little late to implement for EU3.

I totally agree with you on that one. I know Moonpod that does games like Mr.Robot and Starscape have that option for their games. They're a much smaller developer though... so I don't know how the cost changes as the scale goes up. Maybe they'll do it for the next release. =)

I live in Fredericton NB. The EB stores here don't have EU3, and the staff looked at me blankly when I enquired. Future Shop does show a listing, but no release date, and a price of $54.99, so there is some hope. My experience with Future Shop in Fredericton has been very good---they have a decent stock of PC titles. Not as many as EB, true, but then half or more of the titles EB has are either obsolete, or crap, or both. To my surprise, Wally World is also fairly well stocked in newer PC titles.

A thousand ducats to the first man or woman who sights EU3 on a shelf in a Canadian store!

Couldn't find it around the scraborough town centre yesterday, got desperate and downloaded it from gamersgate. No box or manual (at least in print) but at least I have the game. Took me about 40 minutes to download, cost around 48 canadian me thinks?

I know I got both HOI2 and DD from ebgames before from relatively small ones too. Maybe they're just delayed on shipping.

I personally dont like getting games online because there is no manual, no box, and when I want to take it off, scrub the computer and put it back on, getting in online and having to piss around with installation downloads, etc., is always a pain.

I like having my games in a box, with a manual, and easy to access in case something goes wrong...

There obviously is a market for the game in Canada - somebody dropped the ball somewhere...
