So, does EU3 stand a chance vs vicky? I'm a vicky fan and I've never played EU3 but I'm thinking about buying it. I'd like to know if I'm gonna be deceived compared to vicky. Or should I wait for Vicky 2??

vicky definitely! EU3 is just plain wacky, i cant stand it. Magna Mundi made it much, much better, but also ridiculously hard and nearly impossible to do well.

Certainly, it lacks the depth and complexity of Victoria. However, with Magna Mundi it is a truly great game, ultimately different in most ways to Victoria. I think that the complexity that Magna Mundi introduced to EU3 (which for the brief time I played EU3 vanilla felt rather flat - I only played 2 games ever in vanilla) is totally different from the complexity found in Victoria. I find it difficult to even compare them (and I don't think that that is just a product of my limited experience with Victoria).

EU3 is good if you can afford it. It's nice stress-removal game. I don't play it because my computer is too bad but I've played it once and it was quite enjoyable, and they say NA and IN make the game rise to new level of enjoyment.

Ive not got the latest expansion for EU3 but ive got the first one, EU3 was ok but some very strange things happen offen. Still cant get my head round all the blobs you get it central europe, personally although the game isnt as indepth I prefer EU2 which had me hooked for a long time. Victoria is better than both IMO though.

EU3:IN is my favourite PI game, and MMP makes it even better.
Which is better in general? Well, both are different. Where Vicky is has a lot of micromanagment (as people call it for soem reason) and a great diplomacy system, EU3 has a larger timeline, many ways to change the history of the world, you care about diplomatic relations more (even if you gain 7 diplomats a year, you will find yourself needing more), national ideas, challenging inflatation and missions that tell you what to do when you are not ambitious.

In general, don't expect a Vicky-like game because PI games don't have anything in common with one another.

 sadly we never know when vicky 2 will come:rofl:

I believe we can sadly discount a Vicky 2 anytime soon. Ol' Johan himself wrote a while back that he restarted the game for the first time in a long time and found it "too difficult".

If PI ever decides to do another game in the 19th and early 20th century time frame is just up in the air, but even if they do I don't think it would qualify to be called Vicky 2. I expect the game play would be totally different.

But, like everyone else, I'm just speaking trash ex nihilo.

(Y'all did not see me write anything in Latin. It's a merely pigment of your fascination.)

Sadly you are prob right!

I think that it is the difficulty which keeps me coming back. Always new things to discover, new ways to try things, lots of events to try and get (German empire as Austria, still one I have not got yet). 'Easy games' lose their appeal quite quickly. Though once I understood the game, it is pretty easy, I cant think of anything difficult (now).

I think something may eventually come from Paradox releasing the source code and the outsourcing any expansion or development on Vicky or a Vicky 2. I agree with you that we probably won't see Paradox actually sit down and make Vicky 2 themselves. I think it's a definite possibility that they would publish it if someone else made it with the source code.

Or I think maybe Paradx can make another major expansion pack again that overhauls the system, map and game play. Making for prov like HOI3?

It is easier and more profitable to make a sequel then an expansion that overhauls the system.

From what I've seen... I don't actually like the map of HoI3. Looks rubbish IMHO. Would much prefer a similar map to the previous installments - stuff if it is how a WW2 General would view a map, it should be what is best for gameplay!

From gameplay perspective, both maps are the same because you get the same info from both of them while clicking on it shall sooner make controlling it easier.
The only thing that the new map can affect are immersion (some will find it harder to immerse into it while others will find it easier to immerse themeselves) and design (which some hate and some love, thus can't be taken as a con).

I agree with you that we probably won't see Paradox actually sit down and make Vicky 2 themselves. I think it's a definite possibility that they would publish it if someone else made it with the source code.

They've already released the source code and there is at least one team working on it (working under a Paradox-imposed NDA so we seldom hear anything about it); but that constitutes another Victoria expansion (in my feeble little mind) rather than a whole new version of the game. I'm looking forward to what the new expansion will entail, but alas, it is not a Vicky 2.

Of course, considering what Johan wrote a while back as regards Victoria, I doubt if a Paradox Victoria 2 would even be recognizable to the hard-core fan base, so it's pretty much six of one, half-dozen of the other kind of scenario we are looking forward to.

On the other hand, I might be pleasantly surprised. I guess we will all just have sit back and await future developments to know anything for sure; because Paradox ain't talking and the source code teams can't talk.
