Hello everyone! I pick Fujiwara as the starting Daimyo to conquered Japan. As of August 1535, I have became Shogun and conquered every province with the exception of Kyoto. The province I own all have a core of Fujiwara. My question is, is uniting Japan really worth it? I am the only Daimyo left with all the shogun bonus.

Sankin Kotai:
National Tax Modifier +10%
Yearly Magistrates +0.05%
National Manpower +10%

Powerful Shogun:
Morale of Armies +0.10%
National Manpower +10%

Shogun Influence with 100% gives a +50% manpower and +30% tax on all province.

Also, I look on the trigger event that hadn't occurred yet called Sakoku law which gives +3 chance on missionary.

If i reunite Japan now, I will lose all those benefits you see above and just have the -50% naval force modifier removed and have Kyoto as my capital.

What'd you guys think? Should I reunite Japan or should I stay as shogun to conquer the other nations? Any insights on this would be much appreciated.

You should never under any circumstances unite Japan. Period. It's just bad all you gain is 1 province and bigger naval forcelimit. All you lose is what you already mentioned.

Uniting Japan is for flavour only. I think there should be some kind of warning in it's description "Do the math, this decision is worthless. Pass only if you like to roleplay your games".

Okay I thought so. I am going to stay as a Shogun unless someone on here tell me otherwise, for example a special event that only works for a united Japan. :)

The worst thing about becoming Japan is you can't use the Hire Ninjas decision anymore :(

Also I don't know if I was just unlucky, but I didn't see any cool nation specific missions as Japan, only as a faction did I have those.

Oh wow didn't know that either. Having those Hire Ninjas gives a huge bonus of +50% spy efficiency and defense for 100 ducats. Thanks for cementing me to stay as a Shogun. :D

There are some other drawbacks, when not uniting Japan, afaik: You don't have a lot diplomacy-options; sometimes you can't sue for peace (a bug, imho); when you as Shogun declare war on an other nation, Japan can make peace with this nation, so you are in peace too.
