actually there is, otherwise youd be able to see armies and what have you in areas youve already explored.
um no, the only time you cant see a countries armies is if you dont have a army/navy watching them or you are allied to them

just because youve explored it doesn't mean you're still watching it

i believe fog of war is caused by war.......

fog of war isnt caused by war either. It is there to simulate the lack of information in those areas of the world that you have been to but do not have units/proviences in or next these areas. In real life one country does not know where every unit of another countries is or what every part of the country is doing, even with spies and satillites. TI is a much heavier fog of war, and PTI is designed to limit the player/AI from reaching certain areas of the map before they have an a good supply line. If you havent noticed PTI will turn to TI when you have a colony near by that is built up enough to supply the unit(s) that would be going in there.

no, it depends on your tech level, certain buildings help and how many colonies you have in that area appearently. build anything that will boost your supply limits and manpower. Sadly most people dont have that kind of extra cash to do this and thats probably why none noticed it. If you want use the cash cheat to mess around with it. The exact amount of time varies alot so you may have to stick with it for a while. I would like a dev to confirm what I believe is the way to unlock PTI. It works form me when I do it this way reguardless of the time I start.

Yeah, I'd need to hear a dev confirm that before I believed it. Comparing the map from scenario/savegame selection (where you can see the entire map revealed) to that ingame, the only thing I've ever noticed is TI occasionally becoming seen territories, and even that due largely to information passing from other places. PTI stays PTI. I imagine anyone who's worked on a map variant could also confirm that all PTI is drawn in the same color in the raw maps (I haven't, so I can't), which would similarly indicate its status as each normal territory is drawn in its own unique color (if I'm remembering correctly what I've read).

So I don't think PTI "unlocks".

I'm pretty sure that's not true. TI will become explored by doing that but not PTI. That's why it's PERMANENT.

Besides that, there are no province ids for those provinces.

There is no 'showid' command as some previous games had. You either need to look in the province history folder or check one of the province lists that has been posted (hopefully someone will post links).

"columbus" workaround

I have found a relatively simple way to look at the whole map, though it is more for modders than for cheaters, but I thought I would share it here, since it has been brought up in the discussion here, in the hopes that it might be useful to someone:

Create a game and play as Sweden - you can choose any time period. Save the game.

Open the savegame in a real word processor. Even if you usually use notepad, use a real processor - trust me.

Note: below, the string <space> indicates a single "space" character. No other whitespace should be present in the search strings except as denoted by this tag.

Search and replace:

Search: discovered_by={
Replace: discovered_by={SWE<space>

Replace all.

Search and replace:

Search: discovered_by={SWE<space>SWE
Replace: discovered_by={SWE

Replace all.

Save the file.

Load up your game in EU3 and view the world.

Note that you probably won't want to play the game from that modded save after you've looked around though. Otherwise all the countries in your tech group will also discover the entire world without needing to explore.

evilknight, do you have an example of a "PTI" province that became TI? As apeman32 indicated, the definition of PTI is that it's permanent; if it wasn't then it would just be TI.

Release vassals, be patient.... or open the save game with notepad, look for "human = yes" (or something close enough) to find your nation. In your nation's entry, look for "reputation", and set the value to 0.
