I beg to differ. One of the greatest draws of EU was the historical content. It is no accident that AGC-EEP is thriving after all these years. The allure of scripting historical events as well as coding set up was what married me to EU II. No divorce.
I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree, then. I'm a big proponent of the theory of chaos as it applies to history. I'd much rather see the game model the forces and nature of history then try to keep the game tied to to a narrow historical track. Far too often the events don't really make sense given the current game situation or have to be elaborately contrived so that everything goes according to to a predestined plan.
IMHO it takes a lot out of the game as a
game when you know that country X will always have revolts during period Y and that country B will always colonize a particular area, etc etc. I, personally, would like to be more in the position of the actual ruler, not knowing the future, not being able to plan for it, and having to wing it, innovate, and be surprised. It would, IMHO, also make the game much more interesting to replay.
