Alright guys I don't want to look like a dumb ass here. I love this series of games. I have EU2 v 1.09 with AGCEEP. I have just finished an AGCEEP game and want to convert to Victoria V.I.P. I have read so many of these posts and cannot find the actual utility. (By the way many, many thanks to all those that created these utilities MontyP included) Where can I find this? A few other questions as well. Is Victoria:Revolutions better than Victoria VIP? I ahve only played Hearts of Iron 1, is 2 that much better and if so can you play until 2006+? I am very interested in playing from 1419 - 2006. Thanks to you all.
EU2Vic can be found here. As for the game comparisons, I'm afraid I can't help you, since I don't have any of the ones you mentioned. :(

P.S. Note that the files provided in this thread are for conversion to vanilla Victoria, not VIP.

Problem with converter

Whenever I convert my Agceep game as Malacca to VIP, I end up with strangeness

1. primary cultures of Assyrian and Yue
2. 85% or so of my population is Sunni, even though I chose to remain Hindu and my provinces were all Hindu

Can anyone tell me what's going on? I've copied and pasted the information from the countries posting and the cultures posting. When I do the conversion, I get several unexptd character =, unexptd character [, and unexptd character [ remarks in the converter window. And then "There were 24 errors when loading"

Any ideas?

That probably comes from VIP; they have modified some cultures which Eu2Vic uses. What are they listed as in the converted scenario file?

2. 85% or so of my population is Sunni, even though I chose to remain Hindu and my provinces were all Hindu
That's odd. If the provinces were historically Sunni, they should have ~30% Sunni and 70% Hindu population. I'm not sure what's going on there. :confused:

The 'unexpected character' errors come from several flags in England's AI section, namely "flag = [Anglo-Irish_Tax_Meath]" and its friends. The messages should display a line number on which the error occurred, so you can verify this if you like. If these are the only errors, they shouldn't affect the conversion at all (since AI is not converted).

Thanks for that

Makes a bit more sense now. In the converter's culture file malay is supposed to be converted to Malayan, but it must be a bug or something. I think Assyrian is supposed to be Malayan. Though Brunei is Malayan and they get converted to Javan. Makes it a bit difficult to build an empire but oh well

Not sure about the religion thing. I guess I can just convert to Islam in my next game like Agceep asks you to do repeatedly. Guess there's just no place for a Hindu Power outside of India :)

Thanks for the help

If could be of help, i have found only 2 problems:

the first is the already said problem 'the country has the province and wants it' but it is really simple to solve....

the other is the ID number of Land units and naval Units that somentimes are the same for many Countries so the loading scenario pops up a critical error like: '9403 ID = ...2 is already used' etc.... i can edit the .eug but if would be possible to solve it i will be grateful because is a paaaainfull job :wacko:

Hi,

I post my own mods for the country conversion list within new AGCEEP used tag. I maked some arbitrary conversion and some are maybe very a-historical. I'll edit this post after mistake fixing.

Sorry, if I'm hard to understand with my poor English.

Good work! :)

I think "VOL = HOL" should go into the merge table instead of the conversion table, though. You have two countries converting to HOL, which may cause problems.

Many thanks for posting the list Sarcastik, I'm currently working on adapting EU2Rev for AGCEEP 1.51 conversions and you had some tag changes I'd forgotten about. :) Note that you have three tags set to convert to ZUL and at least two to ZAN in the main table, "DAM = MG" should probably be "DAM = MUG" and quite a few of the listed tags appear to be unused in the current AGCEEP. I'll post my own revised data files soon (for instance I merge the Incas to Peru and the Chimu to Ecuador, Mataram to Java instead of Bali and leave tags like Makassar unconverted - personally I'd much rather have most of the East Indies uncolonized than divide it between countries like Brunei and Bali - and I've made some corrections to the culture listings I posted a few pages back).

Having sorted the country and culture entries, the remaining issue with conversion is for me POP and province tweaking. Things such as Italy (due to the large urban population, no doubt) ending up with a greater population than France and Britain combined, Tula / Moskva mapping to Smolensk and Cuzco (almost always a "mega-city" in AGCEEP) mapping to Ixiamas (i.e. Bolivia), Mexico having a minuscule population due to AGCEEP plague events virtually nullifying Aztec cities and so on.

It´s great that your working on this AGCEEP-Rev converter, zlaron.
I think you can use some of the new tags i Rev (U20-U33) to avoid some unesseary merging. Here are some suggestions:

Code:
#This data is actually not pasted in, even though it uses
#Paradox's format. It is loaded and is used dynamically
#by the converter.

#The following is a list of EU2 = Victoria country tags.
tag_conversion_table =
{
	U04 = U23            #Shirvan = Azerbadjan
	AUV = U24            #Magindanao = Philippines
	IRA = U25             #Iraq = Iraq
	CHG = U26           #Chagatai = Xinjiang
	U11 = U28            #Dai Shun = Yunnan
             U13 = U29            #Zhou = Shanxi
             U12 = U30            #Dai Xi = Guangxi
	MCH = U32           #Manchu = Manchu
	ASS = U33           #Mongolia = Mongolia
	}

What do you think?

Thanks, a few of those hadn't occured to me. :) My one concern is that all of the Rev-added tags are basically inter-war by design, e.g. U32 is the Japanese puppet Manchuria / Manchukuo rather than the Manchu of EU2 etc., so for instance national cultures will most likely be inappropriate. Yet it's probably worth using them, especially since culture and the like is tweakable using countries.txt. I'll do some testing.

Very cool utility. My game as Portugal largely turned out well, after fixing the files with provided code, but one annoying thing is that some of my African colonies can be converted to states, but others can't, and there doesn't seem to be any distinguishing factor between them. They all have at least some Portuguese people, and quantity isn't an issue. A state that has ~3% Portuguese can be a state, but a region with 17% cannot, for example. Any idea what could cause this? Thanks.

For a colony to be eligible for statehood at least one of its provinces must have a state culture as the majority population. So in the first case there's probably a (very) sparsely populated province with a Portuguese majority, and in the second that 17 % is a minority spread across the state.

OHH, ok, thanks. Yet another one of Victoria's obscure nuances revealed. Though I still think there must have been some translation errors, as I should have an easy majority in South Africa, but I'm totally outnumbered in Victoria. But I shall live.

Well, South Africa was hardly empty before the Europeans arrived (which is represented by EU2Vic as adding x amount of native POPs to those provinces), and with that region's negative growth modifier in EU2 it's very difficult for a colonizer to be in the absolute majority there, culture-wise. Nevertheless, by 1836 I usually (I pretty much always colonize there :D ) have one or two S.A. provinces with the "right culture" (it helps not to kill the EU2 natives) - thus enough to grant statehood, and then gradual immigration and assimilation takes care of the rest.

You may be right about other areas though. EU2 "Leone", or rather, the provinces it converts to, for instance. In a recent conversion these four provinces had a total population of ca. 20.000, 50% of which were Portuguese, in comparison to a range of millions for the neighbouring provinces. Probably a case of missing POP modifier / extra POPs.

I see that Zlaron is working on a AGCEEP-Revolutions conversion. Very good news, and thanks Zlaron.

Is there a first version out?. If not, when there will be?.

Will you do a version AGCEEP-VIP Revolutions when this mod will be out (in a month there will be a first version of VIP Revolutions)?

Well, I'm basically only adjusting the EU2Rev data files (principally provinces, cultures and countries) to make for a smoother AGCEEP - Ricky transition, so I wouldn't call it a mod per se. Since AGCEEP 1.52 will be released soon, I'll wait until I've adapted the data files to it before I post them.

As for AGCEEP to VIP-Ricky, it's certainly conceivable, but to me the heart of VIP is its events, and many / most of them will be unfortunately nonsensical and/or OOC in a game converted from AGCEEP. Getting the country and culture tags right shouldn't take more than a few hours though, so I might take a stab at it.

My modified data files for AGCEEP 1.52 > Ricky can be downloaded here.

I decided there'd be little point in posting the files in the literal sense, as for instance countries.txt is altered from top to bottom - I add and modify static tag data as well as conversion data - and I'm not even sure if the forum allows codeboxes to be that big.

To use, simply drop the data files into the Eu2Rev data folder, (make backups of the original files in case you want to revert later on) and run Eu2Rev as usual.

General and non-exhaustive list of changes:

Adjustments and additions to country and culture conversion, to account for AGCEEP using tags differently from vanilla EUII.

Province mapping altered in California, South-southwestern Africa, Peru-Bolivia, Moscow-Smolensk area, Hawaii-Midway, Manchuria-Korea & Mongolia.

Fairly extensive overhaul of POP conversion modifiers, provincial base POPs and cultures.

Lowered pop growth bonii for several tags (german minors, russia, sicily) to their standard GC levels.

Dutch standard ruling party corrected (vanilla Eu2Rev file sets it to a French party).

Standardized and corrected a few state names (cypern to cyprus, luxemburg to luxembourg etc).

Todo:

Mapping changes, esp. Delhi area & Middle East (TUR & EGY tend to get strange cores ATM).

Provincial base cultures in Central Asia, Siberia and North America need more work.

Thanks, and good job! :)

What parts of your files are Revolutions-specific? I see the UXX conversions in countries.txt; is there anything else?

MichaelM said:

Right, the use of tags added by Revolutions should be the only thing that requires the expansion, so changing those conversions to (non-UXX) merges should make things work smoothly.

Bravo to the creators of this, I've had a lot of fun using this utility...

With one major exception.
Nations that bear the tag PER invariably cause a failed conversion, in the version I have been using. Has this been resolved? Messing around with the faction conversions, there are nations that can convert to Persia successfully, but Persia (or safavid persia, which uses the PER tag in AGCEEP) will basically corrupt the file.
