I am finding EU2 to be the best of all the Paradox games. For some reason I tired of Victoria. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance to really get past the initial learning curve. The micromanagement of all the goods and resources are what turned me off.

HOI2 just isn't that replayable in my opinion after you've mastered a few games. The automated transport and all issues related to transport and supply are just plain annoying to me.

What exactly was the order of release of these games by Paradox and what is your opinion of the best of the batch? Obviously, I'm asking a biased audience since this is posted on the EU2 forum.

Just curious. I'm burned out with HOI 2 and probably should have tried harder with Victoria. Absolutely loving EU2 and how addictive it is. Can't believe I waited until the past month to buy this game.

The order of release is EU2 - HOI - Vicky - CK - HOI 2 (For the main Pdox games that is).

I like EU II the most followed by CK. I haven't really got into Vicky yet the learning curve is so steep. I'm never really inspired to play HOI because its all about building up to one war. I prefer the flexibilty of EU a lot more.

EU2 is definitely the best.

I liked Victoria, but ultimately it included too much tedious micromanagement.

I don't own HoI 1 or 2, and I don't plan to buy them because they are too focused on war instead of diplomacy and economics, and because I find too many of the Roosevelt administration's policies depressing.

It never occurred to me to buy CK until this morning, but I might sometime.

Tell me all about Crusader Kings. I might just add that to the next purchase. How does it compare to EU2, learning curve, etc.?
Might be best to post a thread in the CK forum....

Its more similar to EUII in learning curve. The big difference though is that you manage a dynasty not a country. As such much of what has to be learned is in regards to the workings of inheritances and marriages and the like. Economics and warfare are fairly basic but not bad.

EU2 is my favorite as well. Never bothered to get past the learning curve of Vicky, but I do like the detail. CK I didn't really like, the interface felt a little daunting, and I found the game harder and more complex than EU2 (then again, I might just be lazy). I own HoI2, and I can say that the peacetime is depressingly boring, although once the war comes, it get's fun. From what I heard, Doomsday's additions seem based on political intrigue, so it adds some depth to the politics. Another thing I liked about HoI2 was, the diplomacy actions you can take are more fun for me. Then again, this was probably because I'd puppet countries for no real reason.

Victoria without question is my favorite of the bunch, although I have not tried CK. I love the POPs system, and wish that it could have carried over into other games, although for a WWII game it would be to say the least problematic. Since I obtain one game per year, a steep learning curve only adds value. Too bad that it did not sell well.

EU2 will always be my favorite... until maybe EU3 is released.

But Victoria is a close 2nd. it has a horrible horrible learning curve, even with the forums and faqs, etc at your disposal. But once you understand where everything is and how to manage your economy and POPs, it is extremely great.

I like EU2 the most. HoI2 is not bad at all, but it can become boring after some time.
I hope EU3 will be as good as EU2 is.

I tried to learn Victoria for some long years but still it was to different and full of micromanagement for me to like it.

Vicky is my favorite game, but I wind up playing EUII more.

Partly for AAR, partly for BYZ, and partly cause to really play a Vicky game, you gotta order a pizza or two, lock the doors, and play all night.

CK and HOI are further down, though for opposite reasons.

CK is almost too random. Muslims walking across Europe to seige Oslo, the HRE deciding to attack One-Province Turk for no reason, and the completely scattered map that results if you don't just overrun everything. It's also a bit too easy to expand, esp. as a nation bordering Muslim states (BYZ can eat the whole Sultanate of Rum in one bite in 1187, for example).

On the other hand, HOI is almost too linear. Peace is pretty dull, but the game also has trouble simulating the way armies were grouped in RL, so starting in a war scenario can be a pain in the arse. Plus, all the extra provinces in Soviet Russia scare me. (Personally, I kinda prefer HoI1 in many ways). The battlescenarios, however, are AWESOME and there should be many more of them.

You left CK out...

My favourite is CK even if it has lots of problems. Then comes EUII and HoI2 is last. I havent tried Vicky.

And that order is when it comes to vanilla games.

Despite it's flaws EUII is still my favourite Paradox game (though i'm hoping EUIII will take it's place). I gave CK a try, but managing a court just did not appeal to me, too many nobodies to keep track of. It also inundated me with random events whose consequences were not exactly clear. HOI is definitely an improvement over HOI and it's movement is attack system fits well with WWII. But in the end the timespan is too short for me and does not allow enough freedom. Vicky i never tried, so no opinion on that.

Vicky is my favorite game, but I wind up playing EUII more.

That happens to me as well.

It is funny to run a destiny and all, but, CK like you stated is kinda too random - i have seen moors overruning all of europe - a woman made pope - a moorish leader of the templars - or even a german couple having dannish sons.
Not to forget that if you do not overrun a WHOLE kingdom and claim its title, all vassals will break free sooner or later. I know how to manage to keep vassals (not to attack em and wait till they ask to be your vassals again), but seriously, it gets tiring.

About hoi2 i also agree - the battle scenarios was a great idea. I also prefer hoi1 in a lot of other aspects. The map was old and all, but imo, the IC/tech system was better. I never seemed to finish a single hoi2 scenario from the very start to the very end. I always get bored of it. Its always too much... repetitive.

About Vicky, war isnt that much complex, but the economy, simply owns. I always loved Imperialism1 and 2, but Victoria is way better. The only negative thing is that you only play less then 100 years. I know, i know, there is a no time limit patch and all, but all the historical accuracy/events ends in 1920. You will not see an USSR, a nazi germany, or a fascist Italy. :(
