Sorelus, you wanted to play Kara instead of Poland. I think you can hold on until you become Persia. Triggering this event sounds ok, though.

Sure but it would be only consequent to give the much worse placed Kara a treatment similar to the other nations. Kara by virtue of beeing relatively weak is confined to a relatively small area for at least two sessions that it lacks a good assortment only makes matters worse. Both the steppes as well as Mesopotamia were areas which were under Safavid control for a considerable period and which were the main battlegrounds between the powers. Given that Persia later on will also have the burden of beeing Shiite seems to make the addition of at least one culture reasonable to give it a reasonable chance at expanding and making expansion beyond COTs and Goldmines worth the effort.


8. Kara - Persian (does it not have Persian right now?)
Nope, only Armenian and Kurdish which is extremely limiting given how poor the provinces with that culture are and how few of them exist. Having Persian culture a bit ahead of schedule might be sufficient but it will still be a while till I aquire Persian provinces. I'd tend towards Arabic to make the Iraqi provinces an actually productive part of the realm and provide a sufficient resource base.

Don't forget both techspeed and manpower are both reduced as well not only the pure census tax. And the "short period" you speak about is still more than 50 years of which I have only Armenian manpower and income and even that is limited as I can not possibly hope to occupy all 4 Armenian provinces. As I indicated I even think that the permanent addition would be justified though I'd not press for it since I may well be wrong about the resources provided by Persian proper.

I must make a pronouncement on general editing policy in regards to events. There is such a plenitude of potential problems that we won't be able to fix all of them as they come along. The more mediocre ones will have to be let go, but if something terrible happens(Dauphine's unexpected loss of all cores, three provs, armies and Richmont is a good example), these things'll be given edits on a case by case basis.

Since we have only begun, most have not had time to review their event files in much detail, and it's worse when your own tags are located in the files of other names. It takes a bit of study to be ready for all that is to come. If you had something dumb happen in the first session that inconveniences you in more than a minor way, then bring it up,and I'll review it. As an example, HG has spoken to me about Portugal's events which prevent it from maintaining a vassalage by Castille. He could have force annexed it earlier, but for the unforeseen events. At the time, its overseas provinces were colonies. Now they've become cities. So I will edit them back to colonies to give back the original opportunity.

If you have something like that, feel free to mention it. In the future, such things as this which, though inconvenient, can be handled in game, will be left to be handled in game. Mainly, this just takes foreplanning.

But I would like to confront the ones that are unavoidable, real problems before we get to them. I'm going to actually look at the events later this week. I suggest looking at your own files and discovering whatever is truly unacceptable, so we can sleep them or make whatever alterations in advance.

To give you a sense of the kind of events we're talking about (because now that there's a warning that this mod contains a lot of potential problems, everyone should endeavor to unmask and anticipate them), this all came up because Castille has an event one option of which auto-vassalizes France.

In the case of those events, the standard I've suggested to John (who would decide which will be fixed) is this:

(1) Serious negative consequences. This is not a rule for every bad event added by MyMap. In the case of Portugal above, I'm absorbing all the bad consequences because sleeping the various events is too big a pain. But if I were to auto-vassalize France, it would be stuck for twenty years. That kind of event may be lurking throughout the files, so we should try to find them, but they may not be found. Sometimes they're in AI files (Portugal has one like this with Atjeh).

(2) Senseless in MP/designed for SP. The vassalization of France is a good example. But another event that's merely bad may not be senseless in MP.

(3) Either impacts only one country or is extremely bad/extremely senseless. The France vassalization is a good example. It benefits Spain, but severely harms France. The balance tilts in favor of sleeping it (in this case I just make the A choice in the event).

I think virtually any event not in vanilla that requires (i.e., no options, however unsavory) cession of provinces by a human country merits close scrutiny.

Regarding AARs, might we have our pick between cash, deflation and a core?

I agree that they should be substantial. Probably not worth the bother of scaling the awards based upon the effort involved, but nobody should get a deflation for a paragraph.

On the other hand, the non-native English speakers are at a disadvantage, so high literature is perhaps expecting too much.

1. Prussia - Silesian, Middle German (don't think High German is necessary-correct me if I'm wrong-because of the added provinces)
2. Austria - Middle German (not Silesian-not historical, maybe give it to Poland-because it gets Balkan cultures), Magyar, Slovak/Slovenian/Whatever
Might as well add Sorbian too, then. It's 2 provs "large", poor as hell and seems to be some kind of sub-Silesian culture.

3. Sweden - Danish (maybe Norwegian, too, depends on how much Denmark has been boosted and what the impact on naval support is)
9. Poland - This One I Don't Know At All and Can't Look, But It Should Have What It Has In Vanilla If It's Going to Be Played

In fact, I would argue to give South Italian to Castile as well. It has a historical base, it inspires conflict, and I can't see why not.

Ah, the event can be avoided by annexation? I thought it was like the Timurid events.

I favor Sorbian. In fact, I'll going through and look at all the minor cultures and amend my list. It may be there are some more that make sense.

Alsatian is a hard one. Let me look at the map. My instinct is that France at least definitely shouldn't get it and Austria shouldn't get it if it's getting the Balkan cultures, unless we also want to give Brandenburg High German or Alsatian. It really depends upon how large an area it is.

As for Italian, Spain already gets it, at least temporarily (I think it loses it when Charles V comes to power, gains Dutch for forty years, loses Dutch), by event. Otherwise, I appreciate it, but I'm not sure that I agree with you. Spain doesn't have culture in that area in vanilla, and while Italy has become richer (and so Venice/Milan benefit), and Germany, too, and probably France and England, it is easy to argue that, were it not for the 1419 start, Spain is a bit overpowered in vanilla if it doesn't have to take the bankruptcies. Of course, it's overpowered insofar as it has too much money, and I think this map clearly changes the balance, so perhaps South Italian, which will provide manpower and much needed naval support, is good.

Really, what is needed is a breakdown of the relative values of all the cultures in Europe. We should shoot for roughly vanilla balance or better, and it's also fine if smaller countries have a better shot than they originally did, because smaller countries have always been underpowered. I may do this. If there were an easier way to track down basetax and basemanpower, it would be simple. Instead, I may just compare population, modified manpower and modified tax versus vanilla.

Of course, that's useful mostly for the next game, unless we do decide to ditch my criteria and use yours (conflict and balance) instead, in which case South Italian for Spain (already gets it, so perhaps it and the OE should get North African culture) and Alsatian for France make perfect sense. But I think, since we've started, we should hold off and simply start making notes for an Multiplayer MyMap in future games.

Dude, just annex them?!

I have no CB on them and they are vassalls of the timurids making a forced annexiation extremely expensive and a diplo annexiation impossible. Plus there are also the Ottomans which have to tolerate such an annexiation as I am not exactly strong enough to take the offensive against them should they try to block me from taking Akk Koyunlu. -3 stab, 10 rr risk for ten years, loosing 15.000 men (half of my army) and northern Iraq is a bit harsh for failing to annex a country that is for most of the time protected by neighbours I can't possibly take on especialy as it is made worse by another event which will trigger which reduces stability even more, gives an additional 10 rr and kills another 20.000 men. If I were a day to late I would have no army and an unrulable country at my hands.

I'll have some events removed too i think. I get around 30 inflation by events 301114 and 301107 for example.

The first one hurts a lot. -1000 money, -3 manus, 10 inflation
The second one is pretty funny, since i also get -3 stab, -500 treasury, 2 less manus...15 inflation also.

both events with RR and other stuff.


For cultures, i only gain armenian, kurdish and arabic by event. May need serbian and magyar if you go for +cultures.
