Eu2 MP problem - freeze on join.

I'm trying to play a game of EU2 with a friend, and it's freezing the second I click join. I've tried V-net as well as hamachi.
The problem is that I can't open up all the ports required by EU2 (My ISP only allows 3 open ports at a time :wacko: ), but I thought hamachi would circumvent this.
Do I have any options left?

Most likely your firewall is asking you whether to allow eu2 access or not, thus freezing the game. If you move your mouse around, does it become visible on certain areas of the screen?

Not that I know of. It basically just locks down and dies. Often, even alt-tabbing is impossible. Did the same when I turned the firewall off.

I can only open 3 ports though, annoying ISP policy I thought hamachi would remove that need though, and it's proven to work with other games.

try joining by hamachi, but not in lan but in ip. before you type in the hamach ip hit the delete button, that will grey out the join button, then type the hamachi ip and try to join

That reduced the freeze time, so I figure it helped something.

Basically what happens is that the hosts ports are all open, hamachi is green, we can ping. I go to internet, do the delete thing, type in his hamachi IP and click join. After that the cursor locks in place for approx 30 seconds, then unfreezes again, nothing else happens though.

Tried to have another computer host. No luck, as it can't find the game on the hamachi IP.

UPDATE:
I got it to work, sort of. I can now enter the lobby, but when the game is launched, I either get stuck on "waiting for players", if we're both OK'd, or don't see the game even start.
