And yes, EU2 and EU3 are two different games for different taste.

if seen from the aspect of complexity and realism, which one is better? the first EU game i tried was the third part... but now im playing the second because im at vacation and got a worse pc. anyway, i think the second is better... though i have only few experience with both of them.

what do you think, if complexity and realism are the golden criteria?

I have never understood what's the problem with 3D. It made paradox games finally look like they are not made in Interwar years.

But 3D is great but PLEASE don't use it on HoI

It is scientificaly proven that our brain can understand much more quickly several layers of information in 2D than in 3D.

That is why any serious military strategy aplication displays its data in 2D.

Unfortunately, to be selected as a major feature by Gamespot a game must be in 3D.

We will have to suffer through it, unless Johan cares about the hardcore gamer and implements proper 2D maps. Also, since going to 3D, it would be nice if the models and textures had not 1995 quality stamped over them.

For me, far bigger issue than the graphics (yes, they're horrible) in EU3 is just the generic feel caused by the dynamic system. If you start from 1453 it'll always be more or less the same for you since nations feel more like each other, and it will never be anything even remotely historical in Europe with Burgundy never ever getting inherited and dividing Germany with Austria etc. I don't in theory have anything against a dynamic system, I just would've hoped that the AI in one would behave somewhat historically in what it dares to do and what it doesn't. Austria certainly didn't go on an annexation spree in the HRE in 1453. Then again, in a perfect game whole HRE would be modelled differently so that even in multiplayer you wouldn't just mostly go for dividing Germany as Austria.

Then again EU3 is just... advanced. The best solution would probably be to code my own Europa Universalis, but that'd be a big job, especially with my skills

Oh, and in EU2 terrain view was clear and told me exactly what terrain was in question very easily. In EU3 (and actually in Vicky) I had to use political map all the time since terrain map makes it hard to look for the borders and doesn't really easily tell you what terrain a province is. Why? If you want a good looking map that isn't really used, atleast add Abstract Terrain Map Mode or something to the next game.

i have HOI 1 AND 2, VIKY,CRUSARES,EU2 AND i tried eu3 from a friend since i had a good feeling would not be better then eu2 overall

with the exception of HOI ( wich is very high tech, sort of say and very good for strategic combat situations and maybe even for some historic content) none of the paradox games i found even remotelly closed as good as eu2. yes progress is shown in EVERY new release.but , as probablly i mentioned before, progress sometimes gets ahead of reality. from a historical based eu2 we ended up having a technical eu3;

some comparation: remeber "snakes on a plane" movie?( was made and remade becouse bloggers gave TOO MUCH imput). it confused soo much the producers that it tanked badlly at box office; that is an example of how creativity is lost when trying to please everyone

i was reading eu3 request fromeu2 fans on the specific thread wich is still up...if you go throw it one can see the soooo many various and contradictory "requests " thrown in there; even without having a comercial aspect in mind, the eu3 designers must have had to cut an paste a lot.... and i would not be surprised if much more has been put in making eu3 then making the eu2..

well im stuck with the vanilla version for now, am not sure if i should try the mods right now. besides, aint it a bit buggy? ;)

latest agceep versions are the MOST stable ones...the only ctd that occur to me is when a big nation like spain/france( and buffs me why poland especially too  ) are going back to war, especially against a human , after long peace breaks on their side

There is a reason why Paradox made 9 patches for EU2. :)

And a tenth could have been welcome... I can tell.

@Beregic: and yes, CTD still happen in AGCEEP but this is more EU2 fault now... Most of them have no explanation to me when I experience them. Of course, others are fixed. :eek:o

I hear ya. Still amazed at how outdated the EU3 map is compared to the EU2 map. And some other disappointments.

I really started the EU series with EU3, but after I tried EU2 for a longer period, I just love it, much more than EU3. It is a much better game IMHO, and not only because the historical events.

what i don't understand is why paradox didn't listen to every bodies complaints about graphics/no historical monarchs or events etc etc, no offense, but i think they really squandered the opportunity to make a really great game

There was a huge discussion on the topic after that the production of EU3 was announced.

It was only me and about 3 more that supported historical monarch and determinstic events.

There were 20-30 that wanted dynamic events and random monarchs as it would improve gameplay and multiplayer. They also claimed that no one should listen to people demanding historical monarchs or deterministic events as it would be able to be modded in when EU3 was released (which wasn't the case as everyone realised as Paradox wanted EU3 to stay clean as the way Paradox wanted it to be  ).

EU3 is mainly an object of eyecandy and things that make it easier to create a balance in multiplayer (the legend of why it went this way is that Johan played as France in EU2 multiplayer and then when the French revolution hit him he got pissed).

SO: The main reason in my opinion of why EU3 lost it's determinstic events and so on are as that the ones supporting deterministic events staid quite and listened on the "You can always mod it in yourself" argument.

If you want EU4 to be the way you want it, go to the EU3 forum, go to the EU4 wishlist and wish for deterministic events, historical monarchs and so on. Remember to use big letters!
