I like the WASP idea. I don't think I'll manage to even look mature and responsible, though. :D

Bring your dad along. Secret Master can con him, and I'll write an event where he releases you as a vassal. :)

Don't you worry about my parents reading these forums. For one thing, that would require the ability to use the internet, which my mom barely has, and my dad decidedly doesn't.

SM, if I can, I will definitely come even if it is with my dad. And actually, he makes friends very easily, so some of you probably would have fun with him :)

Yeah, like anyone here could look adult, responsible and serious. Just try to imagine this:

A man enters the room. He has a weary look on his face and the only reason he is here is because his son really wanted to see his friends. So he just smiles and shakes hands with everybody. Even if he really is wondering why everybody in the room is wearing a shield...

"- Hello, I'm Sharur's Father.

- Hello, I'm Eochaid. Currently, I'm writing an AAR called "Alcoholic Anonymous reporting." You wanna read it? It's about drunk kings in France...

- Hello, I'm Lord Durham, I have a beaver on my shield.

- Hello, I'm Norgesvenn. I'm a virtual bartender and I'm the only man on Earth who can smoke while asleep.

- Hello, I'm Secret Master, I always wear a fake mustache so people can't recognise me.

- Hello, I'm prufrock451 and I am an alien who's mission is to conquer the Earth starting with Hawaii."

And so on for hours....

:D :D :D

I'd be glad to meet your father Sharur. I'll bring him a bottle of french wine from Paris he'll have a lot of fun with all of us. Maybe we could even entice him and turn him into a huge EU2 fan...:p

Well, playing EU2 would require the ability to use the computer, which my dad is sadly lacking :p However, the wine would go over very well :)

Rather eerily, you're parents are almost (read: exactly) the same as mine. Mother: mean, lack of technical skills. Father, drinks even more than I do (and I reckon I have a problem), makes friends absurdly easily, has technical skills, but doesn't use them, doesn't play games except under dire circumstances.

Maybe we're related  :D

Anyway, back to the original reason for posting. As you've probably gathered, I was at a festival this weekend, and the first night, a meeting was arranged from some folks from another forum. It being the type of festival that it was, nobody could be arsed to organise anything apart from a place and a time (and even that was last minute). Which turned out to be a bit of bad idea.

For a start, few people turned up and what was worse, was that we had no idea who was who. In this case, stickers would have been a godsend. What with battling many thousands of other people using the same area as a meeting point, it was hard to tell. I only found everyone by chance. So far, so good.

With no topics, little outside the obvious in common, there was little to talk about (though I had a great discussion about Unreal Tournament with one bloke) and quite a few got vevvy, vevvy bored. The rest were too drunk or too high to notice.

THe meeting disbanded about 3 hours later through various fabricated reasons

Peeps, we should learn from this:

Don't be pseudo-anarchists. ORGANISE. :D
Talk (though I don't think this will be a problem)
Need a method of I.D. so that shy people like me can pick out folks
Need muchos beer ;)

If I think of anymore I'll post them.

Sharur:

Do your parents realize that there are at least half a dozen people who'll be here who are probably older than they are? I'll be 39 and LD will be...heeeheeheeheeheehee! :D

Don't worry about your Dad. We'll make sure he has a good time and doesn't cramp your style. :)

Rictus,

What you described is why I'm personally leary of having "just" Roundtable discussions. It would seem to invite OT jaunts and less constructive sessions. Now I'm not saying it all has to be lecture-style either. But I really think some of each would be useful, of for no other purpose than providing a little structure to keep things from degenerating into chaos.

I'd feel really messed over if I forked over a grand or more to come and that happened with us. NOT THAT I THINK IT WILL. Just saying that would be very bad for those coming from Europe, and others as well.

Looks mightily interesting, only problems are the date and the money. As Sharur has mentioned most students will be busy in may, for me it's even worse. My exams start in the end of may and last untill the end of june.
However, should I drop out of school and start working (garbageman, berrypicker, cop or another low-education job:D )
I'll have the money and the free time.

Mom, dad, I'm droppin out of school.

*get's hit repeatedly by dad*

If we all meet up in one place, say Paris or London, we'd probably be eligible for group discounts.

I can fly to London for about 100 Euros. 460 to Toronto from Paris also sounds quite decent.

This sounds like a truly fine idea. Count me in with these conditions:

1) no livestock, wlak included. Stuffed wlak included. Baked, boiled, fried and steamed wlak included ( although steamed seems to be its natural state... )

2) if it has to be in Canada, at least have the event after the thaw. :D I was in Toronto in April this year and it was STILL SNOWING! It was UNNATURAL!!!

Down here we only know one thing to do with ice - put it in your drink at Mardi Gras! Have mercy on those of us who don't own parkas! :p :D
