I experianced a rather weird problem with my eu2, and was wondering if this has been seen before.

2 months ago I bought a shiny new computer. Pentium 4 prescott 3 ghz, set up to hyper threading, Dual channel 2GB Ram (DDR3200), 10000rpm HG drives, SB audigy sound card, ATI radeon 9800pro gfx, Intel 1 Gbit network adapter.

My old comp was a Pentium 4 2,6 ghz, 1 GB Ram ( DDR2700 ), 10000rpm HG HD drives. SB audigy sound card, Nvidia GEforce 4400, Broadcom 1 Gbit network adapter.

I also have a laptop, 1,5 ghz centrino, and that works just as well as the old pc. approx. 2 sec to join vnet, and mp games run smooth.

Now the problem on the new machine is when I join V-net on the new machine it takes around 30 sec to discover the channels, and 30 sec more to join a channel. If I then join a MP game, I take ages to download the scenario or save game, say 10 min.

On the old machine it took in total around 2 sec to join. I had no problems hosting or joining in MP. Usally hosted 14 players stable on normarl speed.

Now the weird thing is its only eu2 that is affected, my upload and download work as they should, I have 2mbit broadband connection. Both my ISP and myself have tested it in everyway, there is no lag, no packet loss and it runs even better than the specifications. Ohhh and I don't have router.

Also I don't have a firewall or antivirus installed in any of my tests, its clean installations of windows. I tested both with and without DX9, also used newest drivers avalible, and switched around the GFX adapter to test that.

First I thought its the network card, so I bought another and replaced it, but same problem. then I borrowed another network adapter, same problem... :(

ok weird pc, I thought. So I borrowed a completely different pc at work and installed that, to my surprise that was also lagging on v-net. Then I tried One after another to installl win98SE, windows SP4, windows xp sp1 on the new machine and test eu2. All OS lagged when joining v-net. But all other games ran fine.

So I decided to installed windows 2003 server, and bam to my surprise suddently eu2 runs fine again... I can host and everything. Now I ask myself WHY?

I really don't like the idea I have to run windows2003 server just to play eu2 :(

All suggestions are welcome :)

I think the MP forum would be a better place for this.

Very strange Devil. I say that because I've always had that problem getting into vnet and navigating within it, yet if the host is good enough, I receive game files almost instantaneously (well, about 2 seconds) when we are hosting up, and I don't see delays getting from hosting into the game. I know others have had similar problems to me. In addition, I have hosted fine in the past despite having these problems in vnet.

I suspect the problem is somehow caused by the interaction of DirectX with vnet, rather than by vnet itself, but I'm not sure.

I think that it is you'r firewall/router that is causing you the delay's. After that i opened up all EU2 ports in my router/firewall everything have run smoothly in vnet. The most importent ports for you in this case should be those who all the channels use, it take's me about 2-4 sec to enter a channel now :)

I don't have router, nor did I have a router and/or firewall in any of my tests.

And fact is it works in windows 2003 server right now, but not in anyother OS :(
