Well that's embarassing!
A fellow goes away for a little while (well, okay, a great honking long while) and all of this happens...
First, thanks to everyone who voted -- regardless of whether or not they voted for me. It's important to keep things going, participate, and support each other.
Second, thanks for the votes that were actually for me. It's a great honor to have won, and simultaneously it makes me sad -- because I've been so horrible about continuing the story (or, frankly, about playing EU).
To anyone who has been wondering, here's basically what happened --
I burned myself out on the EU/EU2 forums. I was checking constantly, and trying to keep up with way too many AARs at once. I liked (even loved) them all, but it became an insupportable time commitment that first replaced time I would've been playing, then time I would've been writing, then time I should've been doing other things.
I also became daunted by the numerous discussions about writing in the EU2 forums. There are some absolutely amazing and quite serious writers in there, and unfortunately I got to a point where the more I listened/participated, the less satisfied I was with my AAR. And that's not because anyone was unsupportive -- quite the opposite -- everyone was supportive, gracious, and helpful.
So I took a break -- went off and took care of some real-world stuff, played some other games, etc. I'm not sure what I'll do about the AAR, or whether I'll be able to follow many other folks' efforts, but at the least I will be trying to pop my head into the forums periodically! This is just too good of a place, filled with people who are much too nice to stay away from for long...
