Actually, Hive's Venice/Italy is quite viable size-wise, even if it can't stand up to its neighbours.
Venice not being viable in most games is because it routinely is getting torn apart by Austria/OE for good reason...

Well, making something huge out of Venice is not all that easy in mp. I think I have done rather well actually. If I get some conscription centers as well, I think I would be pretty strong.
The biggest problem for Venice is the lack of leaders. And the few they have are simply not as good as those of their neighbors.
Anwyay... since Elijah expressed that he would like to be perm, and Mulliman now switches to Austria I suggest one of two:
1) Camisa give Sweden to Elijah and takes over Venice
2) Elijah takes over Venice
I would like to continue with Sweden, good warmonger country

Yep. Since these guys are too lazy and slow to arrange for a separate day to finish EU1, we'll have to postpone TNG for 1/2 weekends.

Well, how do you want we do not comment about the fall of Vienna. That is an event that should have almost epic and mythological status
Anyway, it is kind of sad when the high point of my session was building a manufactury, when other players take Vienna, conquer half of the known world or fight 3 french-habsburg wars in one session
I hope future danish sessions have more to told (and I really hope that those tales are not only defeats with Sweden

I assumed Maestro would bail out on us. He was aggressive too early in the game as Austria, when Austria isn't exactly a world spanning power. He raised his BadBoy high enough that he lost the HRE election (hard to do as Austria!) and thus couldn't march troops to support his inner cores.
His bombastic comments made him enemies of EVERY player-run nation around him except for Venice, who saw that getting raped for Austria's stupidity wasn't all that great.
He turned down peace when he was obviously beaten, preferring to destroy himself than lose 1-2 provinces. Because of this, he lost almost all of Hungary and Venice lost a province.
They aren't wrecked permanently, but hopefully the next Austrian player can take some time and be peaceful. The Imperial Diplomatic Corps could use the rest anyway

As to his play style, I agree that it's pretty bad to lose your HRE election as Austria. But we all make mistakes every now and then (Especially in Unleashed 1) and I'm sure we'll see more mistakes to come. I don't doubt that Maestro has been playing long term, and that's the imortant issue IMO.
