EU III Why buy ?!?

I have enthusiastically bought and played EUI & II years ago and still am playing from time to time.
Having a look at the screenshots, the add ons to the EU I&II game I wonder why shall I buy this game?
It's 2007 now and strategy games have just moved on and it is necessary to have at least a basic development of graphics!
Would it not be possible to develop a game as a joint venture with some company that has the advanced graphic knowledge necessary to display the typical massive land & sea battles of that area ???
I am not fussy: birds eye view is enough but give us at least something a bit more graphical, please!

if you play paradox games, then you don't care about fancy, 3d graphics.

imo not all games have to have heavy graphics, i think its just a comman misconception, even the best graphics game can run worse then EU3 dose, and i got no problem running it also looking around on the forums here and seeing what people were doing to the demo id say the game has great modability from what ive seen showen on here by people, this should be fun.

That's an EU3 avatar. You can use them when you've registered your EU3 code in the My Games section.

If you're a member of the forum for over 550 days (about a year and a half), you can have a custom avatar. Also, displaying the battles would be nothing but eye candy because of the way the battle system works. There's no player involvement except retreating.

Touché... except it's often necessary to sacrifice one for the other when the budget is limited. Most companies swing toward graphics, Paradox favors gameplay.

I think that's a bit of a generalization. I'm sure that there are plenty of folks such as myself who enjoy fancy graphics, but are also willing to _settle_ for the typical Paradox fare simply because of the gameplay. Doesn't mean that we don't care though. I wouldn't mind having seen a bit more of an upgrade in the graphics, personally, but it won't keep me from buying and enjoying the game.

Honestly for me the biggest selling point is that you can start on any day in the period for any active country.

Any day, for any country.

It's 4 May 1580, you are the Netherlands and have just declared independence from Spain. Can you go from that starting point, win recognition of your independence and recreate the glories of the Golden Age of The Netherlands.

It's late September 1642, you are England, and the forces of Parliament have risen up against the rule of Charles II. Can you defeat the Parliamentary forces and preserve the absolutist order, something Charles himself ultimately failed to do?

It's late 1760, and you are Prussia. Your lands are nearly all overrun by the hostile forces of Austria, France and Russia. Your capital has fallen. Will luck favor you as it did Frederick the Great. And if it doesn't, can you pull the fat out of the fire?

That is what I think is the best thing about EU3, the ability to start at those crucuial points in history and see if, given the hand that roughly the historical personalities had, can you do as well as or better.

No more having to play from the start of a scenario and hope that the situation develops close enough to be able to take over at those crucial points.

If that is not a great new addition, I don't know what is.

Well, honestly, I have to say I'd prefer the regular EU2 interface to the EU3 interface. EU2 was stylish at least I think, and the map was slightly artistic, while the EU3 map seems very clunky, as does the interface. Maybe it's because there's a lot more stuff one has to do, but EU3's interface just doesn't deliver the simplicity and ease of use that I think EU2 did (for me at least).

The issue, for those of you that find the OP'ers comments at issue with your own views is this simply...or at least it appears this way to me. There is a dedicated core of players who are here, and post...ALL THE TIME. This core of players is the most vocal, and the most at odds with comments like the OP.
Also the comment about new posters here is amusing...why shouldnt they? I am under the impression it is the unheard mass that accounts for the majority of sales, not the vocal minority.

Nice graphics are great compliments to any game, which is precisely why game makers endeavor to make it so. It adds to the overall VALUE of the produce in the consumers eyes.

That said I personally prefer great gameplay over graphics anyday but not all of us are interested in, NOR can or do we wish to be mod experts. I wont write another line of script after all the effort I put into making and hosting my own NWN server years ago.

Remember those of you that "live" here on this forum ,in the eye of the beholder...

Improved graphics can be nice, but I much prefer improved and more in-depth game play.

I DO like the Total War series of games, such as MTW2 and RTW. However, I miss the richer gaming experience that Paradox brings with EU and HOI.
