Eu II --> Vic --> HOI 2 (what country should I pick?)

Hey,

I want to play a Game starting with EU2 and then so on until HOI 2

Does anyone have any suggestions?

It should be a little challenging but ofcourse not to hard, since I didnt play EU 2 for ages. And I am a bit of a newb on Vic.

I am looking for good suggestions on countrys and perhaps even some mods.

I was thinking about Sweden, because they arent that hard to play with in Vicky and when I enter WW2 I have probably whole scandinavia (but would it be scandinavia or sweden? or doesnt that matter anything?)
If I enter HOI as scandinavia it wouldnt be that hard to keep out the commies and the axis.

But would Sweden be a lot fun in EU2? Ofcourse I can try to conquer Denmark and have a foothold in europe, but what about colonisation, sweden did some colonisation in North America back then, would I be able to create some colony? And were should I create one?

I have Eu II vanilla and vicky empire under the sun, but there is a new one right? Should I get that one for more fun? Or would I have a lot of fun withouth 'revolution' as well.

HOI II (dd) I have HOI 2 and the DD but my pc is very slow and it will take me about 30 hours to play 10 years HOI. DD will take even longer. And what does DD overs me more?

Well hopefully someone can help me out.

Regards,

Spain would be nice too isnt it?

Just colonize the world a bit mexico and go for marocco? etc.

After that I really do not know what Vicky will do, will it be decent or very hard as spain, (mexico, north africa)?

After Vicky, without to much loss, I could join either the USSR or AXIS. Why because I would like a fortified border with france, and use it ofcourse.

A fortified mexican border would be nice as well if I join axis.

Thanks for the advices in advance.

If you conquer Denmark in EU2 I don't think you'll turn into Scandinavia in Vicky or HoI. Not sure about it though. On the other hand it seems all "scandinavian" culture provinces turn to "swedish" POPs in Vicky if you play Sweden, at least with the converter I use, so it doesn't matter much.

If I enter HOI as scandinavia it wouldnt be that hard to keep out the commies and the axis.

I don't think you should expect there to be commies and axis. Not both at any rate.
In my game, I just transfered to Vicky, there's a huge white mega-blob, called Austria. :D In EU2 you could try and make it your goal for that not to happen.

But would Sweden be a lot fun in EU2? Ofcourse I can try to conquer Denmark and have a foothold in europe, but what about colonisation, sweden did some colonisation in North America back then, would I be able to create some colony? And were should I create one?

I piggy-backed on Englands colonial enterprise in NA, by getting good relations (not hard), military access and good use of a lucky conquistador. Also, sacking Oslo (when Norway exists) or Copenhagen will bring you maps of the waters around North East America. Unfortunately, my slider moves were not good for getting lots of colonists, so my over-seas empire consists of New York State and some surrounding provinces, plus some footholds in Africa.
In Europe, I kept to the historical Swedish plan of the Baltic as a Mare Nostrum, and did well off that. :)

In principle it's a great idea. In practice, you'll need some self-restraint and some luck to avoid going so ahistoical that HoI2 will be unplayable. It's happened to me a lot. Three practical suggestions:

Play the 1492 or later scenario in EU2.
Vanilla is often better than the mods I tried for game conversions.
Get Victoria revolutions, the game is more fun and realistic.

That said, consider some smallish country to keep it challenging in the later games. Many Italian and german minors still exist in Victoria's time, and it'd be fun to unify Italy or Germany with a better-than-historical Naples or Bavaria, respectively, for example. By being in the middle of the action, you can also often prevent too skewed outcomes, such as Austria owning all Germany or the Ottomans in Florence. With these you'll colonize mostly in Victoria

On the other hand, countries like Sweden, Denmark, Portugal can colonize earlier and are more out of harm's way, if you prefer buiding up your country rather than many wars. The downside of these is their smaller population, especially for Sweden. In Vicky, Demography really is Destiny, and your industrial base to convert to HoI2 may be severely penalized by that, unless you manage to attract hordes of immigrants.

I would not discount some Asian countries, especially if you play on modded maps (but these may lead to somewhat bugged conversions). Japan colonizing indonesia in EU2 could lead to a very different HoI2 experience. China, played since EU2 can become such a monster in Vicky that HoI2 will be no contest and therefore no fun. Ayutthaya/Siam, Persia, and maybe even Oman come to mind as other interesting minors for the long haul.

You may already know all about this, but some file editing may be necessary after you perform the game conversions, especially converting from Victoria to HoI2 (events, province assignemnts, etc.)

A last warning: you'd better have a lot of time in your hands, because this is going to take you a very long time to finish. Have fun!

Ok thanks,

I will play vanilla then.

I will try sweden.

And As I am a vicky newb. I really do not know how to ''attract hordes of immigrants.''

Well, I have to try to get my hands on vicky R then. We will see.

I am of to play EU2 as sweden :)
