I have been playing on computers since Clive Sinclair bought out his ZX81 many years ago now.
In all that time, and through all the computers I have had (I wont list them) my wife has supported me in my hobby but has never once taken an active interest.
She has looked over my shoulder from time to time and made remarks like: 'Oh, that looks nice', 'They are better than the Spectrum graphics', 'What an awful looking monster' etc but has never really wanted to try herself.
I have tried to interest her but she would rather do her Cross Stitching and Carpet Making.....
All has changed!!
My daughter decided to play through the EU tutorial and, as there is no save feature, (yet) we left the computer on overnight. I did notice that my wife was taking an interest in what my daughter was doing and she even made several suggestions. (good ones too!).
Anyway, off we troop to bed. About 4 in the morning (Sunday) I awake to find my wife absent from the bedroom.
I lay awake for a while thinking she was probably in the bathroom. Came 4.30am still no wife.
I decided to see what had become of her. I noticed a light coming from the spare bedroom which houses my computer gear. I quietly opened the door and found my wife actually *playing* on EU!!
She was playing the GC and was doing a very good job of it. Apparently she had been playing since 2am.
She is now hooked and seduced ..... we now have to take in turns at playing the game.

Paradox - you have a lot to answer for!!

Wow Viking - high tech chat ups! Makes a change from 'Do you come here often'.

Rastan - Unfortunately I have just played that game with my daughter. She has the old P200MMX model and I have this brilliant 800mhz one. Cannot really get another one yet - we like to eat sometimes!

Barthold - aha! but that is why she *is* my wife!

... have fun!

Well, I did a LARGE misstake a while ago. Showed Diablo II to my girlfriend, even played with her in MP on my spare comp.

Well, the countless hours that followed where I could only get to my old comp with a 15' monitor while my gf hacked away on deamons in D2 on my 19' main comp... =(
Even beeing waked up early on saunday mornings with a 'please play with me' look in her eyes.

I'm not going to show her this game that's for shure =)

My girlfriend doesn't play any games against me anymore. She used to play Imperialism II and would get angry every time I took one of her provinces or colonies. This would usually lead to some short periods of silence between us. Well after losing in Imperialism she has stayed away from computer games.

Last week I have recieved my copy of EU by mail. I spent the whole day waiting for UPS guy and after I recieved it I quickly ran to my computer. Anyway I spent seven straight hours playing the game all the while my girlfriend was watching from time to time my progress in GC. The next day when I woke up i headed straight for my computer when I noticed that my cd-burner was opened and an empty disc missing. After carefull investigation I found out that my girlfriend has copied the game for herself and spent that whole night slaving away for her country. Isn't that something?

Now, I will have to purchase her a copy of the game since I feel guilty. I think that guys at Paradox deserve that money for creating such a great game. Sorry for my girlfriend, I hope you can forgive her, and don't worry another copy of EU has already been shipped by Amazon.

The only interaction I could get between my wife, my computer and I would be if she picked it up and threw it at me.

I think she gets jealous of the time spent in front of a monitor. I hope the game has a good save feature, as the longest I will get to play it at any one time will be about an hour.

And not an uninterrupted hour, let me tell you...

God, I hope she doesn't find this Email....

Sadly my partner has resisted all attempts to interest her in any Sim games, Creatures game or anything else. I haven't tried her on the Sims - buts thats because I refuse to shell out on another bit of naff software unless I am sure it would be appreciated. Oh, and it wouldn't run on my old box, either. Finding a partner who appreciated EU would just be too much to hope for. I have to settle for one who can cope with being ignored anf then pampered in cycles as new games appear and fade, appear and fade. The EU affair may have to involve sub-phases of pampering though to avoid complete breakdown :)

Actually when I started thinking about it my gf plays more games than me, and sure buys more games than me :)
Lately she has bought MI4, Sims + expansion, Star Control 3 and she is one of many betatesters of Creatures Docking Station :) So you might say I'm lucky, but she does have her own computer and was one of Amiga fans. :) She promised me she'd try EU when I got it in English, as she wasn't as desperate as me that wanted it in German, so I'll let her try it after 1.08 has arrived :) I'm a bit curious if she'll like it, as she is not a history buff as me...

I hear you Huszics

I hear you Huszics

I showed my girlfriend Diablo and now we have to trick each other into spending some quality time with the computer. It's a fight.

There's something about Diablo and Diablo 2 that for some reason seem to appeal to women in their 20s.

Anyone else want to try the experiment and see????

The best reaction to a computer game I've ever got from my wife was a few minutes watching in silence and a dismissive snort as she walked away.

Often she will actively endeavour to annoy me in order to break my concentration.

I've tried everything to get my wife interested in one of my games....nothing. Uglyduck, I envy you.

I just tell my wife how lucky she is as I don't womanize, drink excessively, or go on continous outings with the buddies. And she always knows where to find me... in front of the computer :)

grumbold: A couple of times a week I *force* myself to watch one of those 'woman only' (as in male bashing) shows on Lifetime as part of my pampering cycle :) :)

I have had moderate success with gf & games. Only one has taken an interest , and she said because I play so much on the computer on-line..this is one way we can spend time together. StarCraft was the game , and we played a lot. But those are the old days , and with it goes the transition from gf to ex-gf
