What are your advices about playing Ethiopia ?
Any ideas would be helpfull.
Having annexed Italy with Ethiopia I can say a few things.
1) It is EXTREMELY difficult. Expect several reloads and restarts. Don't overwrite a save game unless it's safe. You make a small blunder with e.g. UK and it's annoying. You make the slightest mistake with Ethiopia and you are dead.
2) You need military access to the UK. Place a unit in Khartoum to move into Asmara and have one on standby in Harar to sweep through Barbera into Oppia. Units are _not_ supplied in Barbera.
3) Your 4 excess IC should all go into producing militia until you have enough. When you think you have enough you need one more. After that supplies. Just supplies.
4) You'll more or less find you have a unit in redeploy at all times. You really need to use that to the max and insert in "hot spots" as needed.
5) Make sure you use defensive leaders and try to make them field marshalls. That extra 10% eff. for defense and 15% for HQ will be sorely needed. This is a tip-toe dance as you also need as much skill as you can muster. Haillie Selassie will most likely be skill 6 or 7 when it's over.
6) Don't take Asmara unless you want to face the entire Italian army. You can face the entire Italian army only with 80% of your armed forces (should be ~13 units). Once you have gained military access through countries all the way to Italy they seem to go into "all or nothing" overload and will throw their last garrison units at Asmara. You can now waltz up to Italy and claim it (way require suicide in Libya and luck on the Messina.)
7) It is possible (but difficult) to join Comintern. They don't seem to do much (anything) for you. They declare war on Italy of course, but doesn't seem to care much for your defense.
Like I said it requires a million of things happening in your favour. Don't expect to do it every time. Or every tenth time for that matter.
