Sooooooooo it seems every time i start a new game the random AI generator tries to create something similiar to my empire's ethos.

For example, im currently playing fanatic materialist and individualist. 80% of the AI empires have materialist with a few differences. Mostly though aside from the 3 fanatic purifiers everyone is hegemonic imperialist with a few erudite explorers & federation builders.

Another game, i rolled a fanatic xenophobe/spiritualist......and what do you know, 75% of the AI's are xenophobes.

Another game, fanatic spiritualist.....80% of the AI roll with that ethos.

Is anyone else experiencing this? It seems whichever ethos i choose fanatic with half the AI's also chooses.

Ive noticed this being a problem/complaint of mine since day one.

For me it's the opposite.. Whatever I play i tend to get the fanatic counterversion. Playing xenophile, get fanatical purifiers...

Okay i can work with this, so does it still seem there is a genuine lack of diversity in your games? Where the AI generator tends to make 70% of the AI the same....or very very similiar.

For my part I don't want to exclude confirmation bias either, just to have it out there.

It's not all games, but several of them are feeling like that. One game I started as xenophile had about 5 xenophobia, out of 8 A.I empires. Others have had a better distribution, but I feel it could be better in diversity for sure. My impression is that there is more of your and the opposite, and less of the others around.

There's actually a line in defines.lua for this:

Defines.Lua said:
ETHOS_DISTRIBUTION_FACTOR = 0.5, -- The higher this is, the more evenly ethics will be distributed among playable empires

I find games where most empires have similar ethics to be much more interesting than games where the ethics are all evenly spread out. My first game had half the galaxy be Democratic Crusaders, and most of the other half had the Theocratic Republic government type.

My second game had several Fanatic Spiritualist great powers, and only two Materialist empires. One of those two Materialist empires was a Fallen Empire. It woke up. It started a War in Heaven with the Xenophobe Human Awakened Empire. Me and the rest of the League of Non-Aligned Powers blitzed Beacon of Infinity and conquered the Materialist Awakened Empire while its fleet was on the other side of the galaxy fighting the Humans.

If you're curious what happened to the Humans, they conquered half the galaxy, but the Unbidden attacked their core worlds and I destroyed them both while their fleets were weakened. The Unbidden made Humanity go extinct decades before I took the last planet from the Human AE. BTW, The Unbidden spawned because of the Jump Drives and Psi Drives I got from the Materialist Awakened Empire's ship debris, despite me not having upgraded my ships to use Jump Drives yet. I also had the option to force the Materialist Awakened Empire to ban AI during the war where I took the Beacon of Infinity from them. Hypocrites.
