Ive noticed that between traditions, ascension perks, buildings, technologies, and resources it has gotten really easy to control the ethics of your empire. It’s been made even easier in 2.2 due to alien immigrants sharing your national ethics. I can play the majority of the game simply ignoring it, and I would have to really go out of my way to create a set of circumstances where an ethical shift happens with my empires pops.
I find this really disappointing. In my opinion, ethics is one of the strongest design elements in Stellaris. It has the potential to create the most interesting gameplay and narrative moments in the game. Managing/adapting/resisting to changes in the cultural and political makeup of your empire is such a cool concept which is so unique to Stellaris. Its a shame that it seems to have such little impact on the game right now. I hope it it revisited and improved in future patches/expansions.
