If your judging provinces in square miles, go play Civ. They judge territory by space, not importantance.

I don't ask for gazillions of provinces, but Paradox should at least try to have them correct. Checking how Eastern Europe is done in some fan-made mode like MyMap wouldn't cost them a dime.
A 3 or 4 province Netherland would still be playable, true.
A 12 province Romania would be so crippled by economic conditions (because, remember, they would just DIVIDE the tax income of the old provinces between the new ones, so you'd make no more money, but have to pay more for stab, research, etc) as to be close to unplayable.
That's why game balance says you can't have a 12-province Romania.

from what I've seen, Eastern Europe isn't too bad in EUIII. of course, Latvia has 3 provinces, *possibly* 4 (I'm not sure if there's a certain border there or not ) so I'm happy enough

From what I've seen, this thread is just rehashing ancient arguments (and frequently itself) and serves no particularly useful purpose.
The map for EU3 will not change. It is designed and partitioned the way it is to provide optimum game balance without driving system requirements up beyond a reasonable level.
