Hi, I'm Hans and i come here frequently but i don't post too much, as you are more experienced than me i would like to ask a question.
I'm making a mod and it is going very well but when i open HoI2.exe it shows:
Code:
--- ERROR in language file, token 'HEARTS OF IRON! Doomsday'
 ---
Do you still want to continue?
Then i click ignore and it runs fine, how can i fix this?
Btw, im using the editor.
Thanks.

:D

The editor is only good for one thing, thats using its debugging capability to find errors. Offcourse when you do find errors by using the editor, Wobblers statement still holds. :)

I had same problem when i edited some extra resources.
In the editor there's a "force english" button, if that button was "on", provinces were shown as their own name. In game the provinces are numbers #439 etc.
My problem was fixed when i that force english off.

Hope you get something out of that, i'm not so good in english

If want to use the editor, copy everything BUT THE HOI2 EXE file into a new folder.

Then use the editor for what you want too...then COPY the files you change back to the main DD folder, this after you have made two backups of the original DD folder.

That is safest way...or you could learn to do the coding and modding by hand via text editor and excel etc...

I wouldn't use MS Excel either, it is also known to cause strange MS-style errors.
Use OpenOffice instead.

HOI2 editor is fine just never use the save buttons :)

but for example you design new techs, units it is fine to view them without launching the game.

Many experienced including me that the save function of the editor corrupts the data but I don't know exactly when and in what situations. I used it and after a few saves HOI2 begins produce errors. I think it is the best to create your mod with a good text editor and just view and check it with the hoi2 editor. or try Jame550's program, I don't know it make the save correctly or not.

So i can't mod using the editor? or if i do like Karagin said it works? And one doubt, can i do it more than one time to test the mod?

You have to leave the EXE file in the main HOI2 file, and only copy over what you change, backing up the files prior to all of this is the best thing to do.

Make the changes, then port them over. Don't change your main files, leave them alone, the hard drive is big enough to have two copies of HOI2 on it so use one for your mods and the other for the control so to speak. Thus if you mess up something you always have it unaltered.

So far for me, when I have gotten this error, I have failed to follow my own advice because I have gotten in a hurry or simply forgotten to copy to the right folder. It happens, but it is fix able.

And I have found out that some changes don't work with the new patch for either game, so you have redo somethings to get them to work...

I do agree that if you want to avoid issues, and don't mind the work, the text editing is the best way to go, doing it by hand.

Thanks again for the attention, i will do it with a text program if i don't find any good editor. :(

Where can i find this Jame550's program?
