I recorded all epidemics I had in province Thebes in Greece under Byzantine Empire on Default setting. I also included cause of death of each of my rulers. Black Death frequency was set on more.
My playstyle was careful. I never led in battle, always stayed in seclusion, however sometimes epidemics started so soon after previous one that seclusion gates were still on cooldown I also never participated in dangerous activities that could get me killed and RUSHED tech required to get hospital upgrades, so I had level 5 hospital really really early (somewhere in late 9xx), however it didn't seem to help that much. I also always had really good court physican.
Camp Fever 772 - 774
Camp Fever 775 - 777 - time since last outbreak 1
Measles 796 - 798- time since last outbreak 19
Camp Fever 806 - 808- time since last outbreak 8
Consumption 839 - 842- time since last outbreak 31
Measles 842 - 844- time since last outbreak 0
Black Death 860 - 862- time since last outbreak 16
Slow Fever 875 - 878- time since last outbreak 13
Slow Fever 890 - 892- time since last outbreak 12
Black Death 899 - 901- time since last outbreak 7
Measles 907 - 909- time since last outbreak 6
Smallpox 912 - 914- time since last outbreak 3
Black Death 920 - 922 - time since last outbreak 6
Consumption 942 - 945- time since last outbreak 20
Cosnumption 964 - 967- time since last outbreak 19
Black Death 984 - 986- time since last outbreak 17
I stopped recording after this because frequency started to drop quickly, perhaps because of level 5 hospital but I also rarely had outbreak even reach Thebes borders so I don't know. In conclusion, is this even realistic? Frequency of those outbreaks is insane. They last roughly 2 years, and average time between outbreaks is only about 12 years. May not seem much, but that means I spent 30 years or 14% of total game time (up to last recorded outbreak) in seclusion, which is not fun.
This is my rulers age and cause of death.
43 - Great Pox
48 - Stress
55 - Stressed/Depressed
59 - Suicide
73 - Stressed
65 - Mangled mess
77 - Stress
60 - Great Pox
70 - Natural death
55 - Suspicious circumstances
50 - Comatose in bed
67 - Natural death
58 - Depression
Which gives us average lifespan of 60 years and the most common cause of death to be stress.
So, do you play on "minor epidemics - Fewer" setting?
