It can be "Russich" or "Rusich" which in this case means "the Russian" as a nickname. It is also similar to several tribal names, so it might mean "of Rus" as well. Probably russki is relatively modern, after all.

Russich or Rusich it will be then! Thanks :)

I gave the Gog and Magog tribes the richest province in their respective domains as outlined by Sarmatia. The other tribes will get divvied up as underling Counts at random, as we don’t have much further than that to go on.

The rest of the additions were mostly taken from updates provided by Ayshenti, Sarmatia, and Cuke. (Where has Corvuz gone, I wonder?)

While I realize there’s quite a few courtiers I left out, that was deliberate for now, as at the moment I’m just trying to get firmly established who goes where. The female rulers I’ve left out because frankly, they can’t inherit unless we mod the exe, and I’m not about to even think about trying that at this stage in the game.

Something else I thought of. So that everyone in the game could be playable, how about we divvy it up into Heroic and Villainous (Catholic and Orthodox respectively). That way, we can make all parts playable for everyone. Just a thought!

And I apologize that it's taken me so long to update this, but here it is now. :)

Ah good, lots of things to be placed!

Real life has also gotten in the way of my promised suggestions for East/Central Europe Kingdom distribution, but here we go with Russia:

rus4km.jpg

With this sort of setup, each Russian principality is reasonably self-sufficient, with room to give some land to vassal counts. It also makes Rus at a total of about 15 provinces, much more in the boundaries of the original state of Kiev Rus', and not the absolute monster it is in the normal setup. The rest of Russia (which I think was quite sparsely settled originally anyway?) can probably be filled with large powerful evil creatures.

Quick key would be:
1) Prince Igor Russich in Novgorod-Seversky (it's actually got its own province in vanilla CK!)
2) Prince Sviatoslav Russich in Kiev (the 2 isn't drawn very well, but you can tell which one it should be!)
3) Prince Iaroslav Russich in Galich
4) Prince Iziaslav Russich in Pinsk or Minsk (as close to Lithuania as we can get...)
5) Prince Vsevolod Russich in Chernigov (he's mentioned as having some land, and if he's here he'll fill up the gap...)

The Polovtsians are presented as being quite strong, so they should replace the Cumans, and the other pagan tribes be in the remaining bits to the North-west. This also means that the pagans will actually be a major threat, and not the pushover they normally are!

This would also let the other 2 Slav states, Lech and Czech, be unified kingdoms of the same size (15 provs., and again, with the gaps to the North filled with reasonably powerful pagan tribes:

lechczech7yu.jpg

So Lech is basically Poland, and Czech is a "greater Bohemia" of 15 provinces (precise distribution of these may have to be adjusted though, depending on what's happening in Germany & Hungary!)

The "heroic"/"villainous" split is good, but I'm not sure about making them Catholic and Orthodox - we want them to be able to fight without sitting around waiting for prestige to accumulate! So, we could possibly design this with using Divineshadows mod in mind, which makes pagans and muslims playable...?

Vsevolod should be Igor's liege. His capital should be in Chernigov. Some more heroes you could have would be Sadko of Novgorod and Ilya of Murom.

On Rus there are actually some very rich epic materials - both ancient folklore and more contemporary authors. First of all there are lots of old (either contemporary to Igor epic or even pre-dating it) heroic epics, or "bylinas" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bylina), each detailing the deeds of a legendary hero.

The most obvious are: Ilya Muromets (of Murom), Dobrynya Nikitich and Alyosha Popovich - all in service of Grand Prince of Kiev, securing southern borders of Rus from pagans (their collective portrait, as seen by a Russian classic - http://1000years.uazone.net/bogatyri.jpg), thought also to represent three different social strata - peasant son Ilya, noble Dobrynya and priest's son (literally Popovich) Alyosha;
Volga Vseslavich, Svyatogor and Mikula Selyaninovich - pre-christian heroes, not only warriors, but also profound wizards, sometimes (Svyatogor's sword to Ilya Muromets) symbolically "delegating" their powers to the newer christian age heroes;
Sadko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadko) - an unorthodox "merchant-hero" from Novgorod, striking a deal with the Sea King and advancing from a penniless gusli-bard to the wealthiest of Novgorod merchants - clearly suited for stewardship in Novgorod.

Also here belong their legendary protagonists - Solovei Razboinik (the Robber), pagan Kalin Tsar - both from Ilya Muromets cycle, three-headed dragon Zmei Gorynych, slain by Dobrynya, and Tugarin Zmei, defeated with Alyosha's cunning, who tends to vary version-wise from a dragon to a pagan warlord.

I might also humbly suggest using Pushkin's tales as a source too. There we have:
"Ruslan and Lyudmila" (only opera described in Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruslan_and_Lyudmila), where there are four knights - russian Ruslan (a typical epic hero, wife Lyudmila), varangian Farlaf (a decieving coward), khazar Ratimir (a cunning mastermind, wife Svetozara) and polovets Rogdai (a fierce warrior), a black wizard Chernomor, dwelling in Caucassus mountains (those seem to be getting crowded) and his fellow-witch Naina, and Finn the white wizard, a cross between Merlin and Gandalf :) .
"The Tale of Tsar Saltan" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_Tsar_Saltan), that's most interesting for the image of unnamed land, that Saltan rules over - a seaside one, and with a lively trade port, clearly resembling Novgorod - the currently rulerless principality. He would also have an heir, prince Gwidon.

If interested, I could detail more heavily on most of those, as all those sources are widespread in Russian, and most are read in early school years. :)

AFAIK, this tale by Pushkin isn't exactly Russian. He "translated" a story by Giovanni Francesco (or Gianfrancesco) Straparola. I hope that the Italian was the first to come up with this plot :) .

Still active, I hope :) I dug up some things about norse dwarves:

We have the dwarf lord Ivalde that had his realm under ground (think Moria). He had three sons (the Ivalde sons) that created the weapons and jewels of the norse gods. Their names were Brokk, Eitre and Sindre. Ivalde means "He who has power".
He is married to Hildegun, and the two of them also had the two daughters Idun and Bil and the son Hjuke. Idun was married the godess of youth and was married to Brage, son of Oden. They have not aged since Idun's 25th birthday.

Wiki differs with you on this:
The Tale of Tsar Saltan is a 1831 poem by Aleksandr Pushkin, written after the Russian fairy tale edited by Vladimir Dahl.

Well... Since I have never heard of ANY Dahl's literary works other than the dictionary, I suppose you're right. :) Anyway, Straparola does have a Very similar story; I wish there were Italians on this forum to second my claim.

Well... Since I have never heard of ANY Dahl's literary works other than the dictionary, I suppose you're right. :) Anyway, Straparola does have a Very similar story; I wish there were Italians on this forum to second my claim.

Dahl actually conducted a vast etnographic study, so there might be - I believe he collected lots of folklore while working on the dictionary, though I don't happen to remeber anything besides it too. And the plots of such tales can be pretty international, with surprisingly little variations. I could actually believeboth versions, as Pushkin tended to be very unselective as to where to adopt plots.

Popping to say hi guys. Unfortunately I'm at school and I don't have my copy of CK with me, so being able to complete this mod is going to have to wait until I get home for Christmas Break in December.

Just as a general update I've been working on physically adding the characters and such in their locations. I'm concentrating on the UK area since that's what we've the most info on atm.

Dusting this off and giving it another try. Can't promise for certain exactly when it'll be done or if it ever in fact will be done, but I'd like to see how far I get :)
