Where is that button to enter an ally's war?

As example, when Netherlands goes independent and makes me an ally, there's no means to actually join the fight. A month latter I lose prestige and the alliance for not joining the war.

Maybe I'm just visually impaired.

Relatedly, there should be a means to stop my vassals from joining my wars. Most times it's more trouble than help and, as leader of the pack, I should have the option to make them stay home.

At least they don't ninja the wargoal anymore

Change their focus to supportive, I find sometimes on that setting they won't even come to help. This is especially useful when you're playing show superiority wars where losing battles costs you a lot of score.

Change their focus to supportive, ... .

There's an option for that??

Even so, often just their being in the fight compromises the objective, especially if the goal is an 80% win rate and they're getting mowed down like grass.

There's an option for that??

On vassals screen at bottom right there's a button. It'll bring up a screen where you can toggle between 3 options Aggressive, Normal and Supportive

Difference between the three is minimal though. Even with supportive, they engage in fights or siege when they feel safe.
just pointing out where to find it :)

Supposedly you're expected to use Enforce Peace to join wars. That seems kind of dumb though; I don't get why there's just no "Offer to Join War" button. I can't imagine any nation would turn down help from the regional superpower if they're losing in a war.

I don't think I can agree with that, from my observations with small-medium strength vassals. They usually stick back in my territory or lay around somewhere near the objective with no actual attacks. Then, the moment I switched it to Aggressive in one of my playthrus, they rushed enemy territory and started carpet sieging. Have had those observations several times, so it must work.

P.S There is no "normal" option, it's "no focus", which means that the AI itself picks either of the two stances (I think), so it's not exactly normal, which would imply a balance between the two.

By normal what I should have said was default behaviour before 1.8.
