Admiral Tulp read the latest message from the War Room and nodded slightly.
"Allright men we are now on Fire Wall and we have permission to engage S-1. Keep speed up and turn slightly away from S-1. Keep the distance the same, we don't want to loose it. Signal the Redeemer (OOC: one of the other Knox's) and tell them to get their chopper in the air as well to drop some sonar bouys a little bit away from our own sonar bouys. Once we got S-1 pinpointed we can lash it."

Redeemer launches it's bird toward the suspected location of the submarine. Unapproachable starts to turn away and speed up.
Suddenly, the sonar officer shouts, "Mechanical transient! Torpedo in the water! Bearing 043, closing fast!"

The newest Admiral of the UPE heard the Unapproachables engines speeding up, amazingly that was going good, he could see the Redeemer's chopper going up, that was going good as well. Everything seemd to go well. How.....odd.
The Admiral just wanted to comment his officers on how good the excercise was going when he heard the shouts from his sonar officer.
"Dammit, is it a live one? Dammit, rutherman, 90 degrees to the starboard away from the torpedo, signal the other two vessels to go 90 degrees to the portside and go top speed. Then tell the War Room of our situation and demand on my authority that they tell us if it's a Eutopian sub or not. And go top speed our selves as well!"
*Dammit* Tulp thought *we are in deep shit if it's a homming torpedo*

The exercise referee stepped up. "Admiral, all indications are that an Albonan diesel submarine just fired on us. The dummy torpedo is on it's way. That is a Eutopian submarine playing opposing force, sir."
The sonar man shouted again. "Mechanical transient, sir! Second torpedo in the water!"
LeGrave asked the Admiral quietly, "Orders, sir?"

"So we are using torpedo dummies now? I was under the assumption that we were only using the sonar. Enfin, communications, don't transmit my last message to the War Room bu tell them we are engaging a hostile sub. Carry on with the 90 degree turns. Sonar, where is are the torpedoes heading? And when do you think that you know where that damned S-1 is?"
"Surface ships are a lot less likely to get damaged by a dummy than a sub, Admiral," the referee quietly explains.
The sonarman chimes in. "Got her, sir, the second shot gave her away. Ready to lash the hell out of her on your command."

"Aye, sir," shouted Wogglesby. The active sonar on Unapproachable started to lash out at the ocean.
Almost immediately, a call came from the helicopter. "Dead on, it looks, and you all owe me some new sonobouys!"
Unapproachable churned up a wall of water as it wheeled starboard. Behind, a dummy torpedo breached some fifteen yards back before running deep and vanishing.
The radio crackled again, another call from the chopper. "I've got hull-popping noises, she's coming up!"
The referee smiled. "Then you must have killed her, sir. Good job."
The bridge erupted into cheers.
And then the radio again. "Admiral, this is the Captain of Redeemer. We took a dummy torp dead in the stern, sir. Our referee says that our stern has been blown off and we're taking on water. We have heavily casualities. We're starting damage control and will need to be taken into tow, and someone will have to take our chopper for us."

"Aye, sir!" The Unapproachable begins rescue and towing operations, while Thorn patrols for hostiles.
"Admiral, Redeemer indicates that they are secure from sinking, and Command has sent a tug to take her under tow. Orders?"

"Good, signal the War Room and ask them for orders. I suggest splitting up the TF and send the Thorn to escort the Redeemer and accompanying tug but they call the shots."
"Admiral! Flash traffic from Command and Ops." The comm officer hands the message to Tulp.

Men, I have the sad duty to inform you of the following...
This morning the Eutopian Central Bank in New Lancaster City was...hit by a terrorist attack, through the media I understood that there are hunderds of death and that the attack is claimed by a new communist terrorist group. Eutopia is once again attacked. Exercise Hidden Herald is cancelled, real live begins. I ask you to do your duty, I'll do mine...over.
Transmit this to the rest of the fleet as well Mr. Le Grave. After that I want you to transmit a number of message for me, encrypted please.
