I can't find fortress in 2.0 at all. I tried to force spawn it by modifing it's spawn chance but while all other leviathans spawn 100% of the time, fortress is nowhere to be seen.

I could be just blind of course. Can someone check it on their system?

is the fortress bugged for anyone else? I defeated it and it said i would get a special project but nothing appears and then it repowers and starts attacking and I kill it again and I cant retreat so it destroyed my fleet then I got spammed with events saying we failed to enter it in time and that it had powered up

I think I defeated the fortress over 16 times before it finally killed my fleet and then it powered up at full like it should

This happened to me, except it didnt power up and now my fleet is there killing it for eternity

for those about to attack the vault, save your game so that if the events fail to trigger you can reload. after the vault and its guardians are destroyed it should give you two research sub options in the situation log. if it fails to create these and put the research marker in the system screen you are hosed and need to reload.

for the rewards: it looks like as of now all you get is both the decoder and encoder techs at 33% researched. {out of 4 loads that is all I saw and per a previous post in this thread the event files only show the encoder/decoder tech. the other items: shields,armor, and reactor are reverse engineered from FE ships. :(

How many times did you have to reload the save? I'm at 4 and sick already.

It seems the way to make it work is to leave the situation log open when you're about to click to start the event chain and remember to stop tracking any other systems you have logged.

I've had it work at least 5 times since I tried and god knows how many more without doing so, so I'm guessing this is the way to go (or my luck's been extremely moody).

I'm honestly quite annoyed you can't even get ONE dark matter tech from it, even if you give it actual dark matter, which is a pretty late research. You can't research debris for the dark matter tech it's actually equipped with either. On top of that it's bugged out 3/4 times I've encountered since 2.0 AND you're likely to lose a lot of ships (potentially including scientist if your science vessel is carrying one) if you get one of the events wrong. Risk/reward is way off even before counting the considerable opportunity cost.

Actually, thinking further on this.

The prize for the Enigmatic Fortress should be the Enigmatic Fortress.

Move it onto the star, so that it controls ownership of the system. Once you defeat its defence cloud and board it you "own" it, and a sequence of events like its current puzzle chain allows you to activate 3-4 unique and powerful starbase modules and eventually reactivate its defences (possibly in a weakened state). It wouldn't count towards your starbase cap, but you can't customise it in any way and it can't have shipyards, only its own unique modules.
I really love this idea.

It seems like they really should buff the reward. Giving you control of the Fortress seems like the best option to me, maybe with special tech available through event trees related to studying it after you've taken control.
