With 2.0 the Enigmatic Shields and Reactors are now renamed to Dark Matter Shields and Reactors and are made available to FEs and everyone else through salvage of their ships. How does that affect the Enigmatic Fortress? Does it now always give the only technologies exclusive to it (Decoder and Encoder) in addition to a Dark Matter tech? Does it now only give Encoder and Decoder? Does it give a toss up between a tech that you are almost guaranteed to get as soon the FEs start to Awaken and technologies available only through the Fortress? I don't think there was any information about that.

I just see it as a way to access these technologies earlier as the Enigmatic Fortress Is probably easier to defeat than an FE. They might give it some unique rewards though but I don't see much changing about it atm.

I believe the Shields/Reactors are now unique to Fallen Empires - you need to research some scrap from battle to gain the research options.
I think you'd just get the things that are still unique to the Enigmatic Fortress.

Most if not all of that is being moved over to FE ships and being renamed there isn't really anything unique about the Enigmatic fortress anymore other than it's event chain, Knowing PDX I Would not be surprised if they didn't really give anything to the Enigmatic Fortress which is why I think it will now just be a easier way to get ahold of the tier 6 technology without having to fight the FE directly. They may add one or 2 unique components but don't expect much.

I'm leaning towards agreeing with those that said it'll probably just be the quicker/easier way to gain those techs, but I'm really hoping they add something unique to it. One can hope. Guess we only have 2 days to wait and find out.

Compare to the other leviathans. The horror just gives you jump tech. Stellarite gives some habitable planets. Drake gives an admiral promotion and a resource node with a long wait for either a big ship or a single tier 6 (equivalent) tech. If the fortress gave the tier 6 reactor and shield and its unique aux components (encoder and decoder) I'd put it at about equal to the Drake in value.

Right, but currently fortress gives either shields, power, or one of the the unique aux components (unless you have the mod which puts it back to how it used to be which would be all four as you describe) which makes it kind of shitty unless you happen to roll one of the 2 unique aux mods. I may also be misremembering as I've been drinking and haven't played the game unmodded in a long time.

This is the exact quote from the Patchnotes:
* Reworked Enigmatic Shields and Power Cores into Dark Matter Deflectors/Reactors, tier 5 techs that can be scavenged from Fallen Empires
So I doubt you'd get them from the Fortress Anymore, rather you just pickup Encoders/Decoders/etc as they still seem to be unique.

The Enigmatic Fortress has always been related to dark matter. So there is no reason why Dark Matter Deflectors or Reactors will stop being a prize from it.

I imagine the encoder and decoder provide nice buffs or debuffs for titan ships

how come lol? evasion and tracking are almost completely worthless for big ships. Evasion in particular gets increasingly severe penalties when applied to bigger hulls. I bet titan will get like 1% evasion from an encoder. Waste of A slot.

True for evasion but tracking and accurancy are ones of the most important stats for the big ship.

Decoders are useful for L slot weapons. An engimatic decoder to an L slot weapon means 10% more hits against cruisers and below and 5% against battleships.

Two EDs means 20% more hits against corvettes and destroyers, 15% against cruisers, and 5% against battleships.

It's one of the biggest single slot advantages you can get.

The Encoders are rubbish, but decoders are great for big guns.

Would be cool if the enigmatic fortress had unique starbase tech. Tech like for example, more starbase hull points or more powerful weapons outpost/boat things you build in 2.0.

Meh I should read about item's properties before posting on the forums next time... Totally thought decoder just provides +10% tracking, instead of +5 tracking and +5 aim. 10% tracking for battleships/titan is kinda meh in my opinion, but +5% aim and +5% tracking is definitely really good.

Actually, thinking further on this.

The prize for the Enigmatic Fortress should be the Enigmatic Fortress.

Move it onto the star, so that it controls ownership of the system. Once you defeat its defence cloud and board it you "own" it, and a sequence of events like its current puzzle chain allows you to activate 3-4 unique and powerful starbase modules and eventually reactivate its defences (possibly in a weakened state). It wouldn't count towards your starbase cap, but you can't customise it in any way and it can't have shipyards, only its own unique modules.

I'm pretty sure it was stated in a stream somewhere that Fallen Empires would be getting techs that you could only get from them/their ships.
Everything considered, I doubt we're getting anything like T3 Kinetic Artillery or T3 Lances.
I might be wrong, but we've got less than 24 hours before we know for sure.
