Hi there everyone.

So I am currently playing through a game where I am colonizing areas such as Canada and the US, but I am not from North America so it can be difficult to figure out which provinces are which cities IRL based on maps. For instance, the province of "Odawa" is not actually Ottawa. But on the EU4 wiki page for "Canada" it says the province of Ottawa, the default capital of that nation, is province number 991. Except province 991 is in the state of upper Ontario rather than in the Ottawa valley. The location also doesn't seem to match with any maps of Canada I have looked at.

Since I am not playing as England, I don't get some of the automatic name switches. Does anyone know any way or any resources to figure out which provinces are which decently sized cities in North America? Like in Newfoundland, Labrador, Quebec, and Nova Scotia in terms of Canada in particular and in general for the US coast (places like Houston, Galveston, Corpus Christi, Philadelphia, Boston) that sort of thing.

So yeah, is there any way in particular to figure out which provinces most closely match these cities? Is the case of Ottawa supposedly being province 991 a leftover from maps before later DLC's and updates?

With Kind Regards and High Hopes,

Thanium :)

what i did, I loaded up extended timeline of modern day and took a couple screenshots of the areas and then renamed everything myself.

The wiki could just be out of date as leviathan is the most recent patch

If you just want the english names which the game would assign to the provinces if it is owned by an english country, you can find them in the common/province_names/ folder.
The eu4 wiki is not a good source for that, because it is supposed to use the default names of the provinces and not the culture specific names. And nobody really bothers to implement name changes or even looking up the correct name in the first place. The province 991 for example has not been called Ottawa since at least patch 1.8.1(the capital was called Ottawa till 1.10.1).

Thank you! This should make things a lot easier :)
