Well I'm doing a run again, never spending any military power, except for tech only, unless forced by an event. I'm ahead of the majority of my neighbours, though usually not by much. England is keeping up and at the same tech level.

However, I'm stuck at 999 military power now. How do I get higher?

(thanks for the information so far, btw, it's been real helpful :))

You cannot go higher than 999. That's the cap.

Profit.

Aha i called my ironman save with france bbb too xD
Edit now i notice that's sweden. ahahahah

@Spike
Take ideas anyways, you have a ton of military power and tech will cost a lot if you get ahead of time.

Most would go defensive ideas since they get awesome bonuses. But with france i would go offensive.

England is top of my 'irrational hatred' list. (I'm English IRL, go figure.) They are a constant nuisance when it comes to trade, naval warfare and colonisation, and rarely any use as an ally.

Depends how willing you are to cheat/exploit/"re-roll the dice"... ^^ You can just load the game when you're at 100 Army Tradition and create a general, if you don't like it, load the game and try again. If you have a look here:
http://www.eu4wiki.com/General#Leader_skill_points_analysis
you will see that even with 100 AT you only have a 6% chance of getting a General with Siege 4, 1% to get Siege 5... fair enough if you roll the dice a few times. Works even in Ironman mode :p

Edit:

I'd like to disagree. AI have TONS of generals, often with good values. Most ridiculously rebels often field really good generals!

If you're willing to save scum to get a better leader, you might as well console command yourself 500 Mil points and then pick the best of the 11 you create. Much more expeditious.

England>Great Britain is the weakest of the Great Powers in Land so to lose that badly probably means your morale was not recovered enough by the time you fought, your composition is bad, and/or not enough ideas. Do you have too much cavalry or artillery (not enough frontline troops)? Do you have the 25% bonus to morale from Defensive? Did you wait until about 3 months after you put maintenance on full to declare? Did they have a great general? Did you have any terrain penalties? Was their prestige and Army tradition(AT) much higher than yours? Any of these could be why but to lose 95 to 14 is just plain impossible with comparable techs and units without some really bad modifiers.

You should always find a use for Military Monarch points it should never get to 999. If nothing else build your military line buildings to get to barracks. Your manpower and reinforcement rate will go way up building enough of those.

I seem to be doing pretty good, but what's this all of a sudden?:

I get a -2 Military power, because I have 3/1 leaders. All of which are assigned.
You can only have one military leader (+your monarch & heir), more will cause you to lose military points. The War College and Admiralty will allow you one more each, as will Innovative ideas and some national ideas. (Look for "+1 Leaders without Upkeep")

But then he can't go around telling people it was a legit Ironman game, cause you can't use console in Ironman :)

And most importantly (and most easilly achievable) to be Papal controller

Or HR Emperor, or just don't give a heck about the -1 malus if you swim on military points and get that leader anyways.

And i think i got what happened with your first game, you said you had a lot of mercenaries, well as far as i remember mercenaries don't get updated units when you tech up military. This is the only thing i can think of since as you stated you had 100% maintenance and everything.
