Sorry if this question is already asked, but then again:

Muscovy becomes Russia after a few decades.
Why is Great Britain still called England after the unity of England and Scotland?
And after that, in 1801, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was formed. Is that europauniversalisable too?

As I understand it, the reason it does not happen is because all the other tag changes like Castille to Spain and Muscovy to Russia happen early enough in the game that they are predictable and constant. England to Great Britain, on the other hand, happens very late in the game and thus will very often not happen at all, which would screw up events post 1707.

England just changes its flag in the event, rather than switching tags, IIRC. If you wanted to make it so that it was renamed "Great Britain" it could be done by making "Great Britain" with one of the spare tags and triggering a switch with the event.

I think england changed to UK before, but now only the flag changes, I guess this is to save a country tag... but it is still necessary to have a different tag for Russia, as muscovy is not the only country who can become Russia(all the russian minors can IIRC)

no it has never been changed to UK in vanilla GC.

*grumble grumble* Ironically while there is nothing which annoys me more about EU2 it is one of the very few things I have actually changed

regardless, there are two special 'country' changes in EU2. The Act of Union event that changes Englands flag to the Union Flag and the French Revolution events that changes Frances Fleur de Lis to the French tricolour.

This was in the days before the flsg changing command (which you can now use for any country).

The reasoning behind it was that to change country from England to Great Britain would require a complete duplicate set of events for the Britain tag, as well as duplicate events for any country that would 'interact' by event with Britain (rather than England); which is a lot more work.

personally I would prefer having another tag rather than having it remain 'England', a LOT LOT more, but that is just me. (I am really stunned why I havent changed it in my own campaign, but there we go).

Nope, AFAIK the 1.09 patch is the final one.
You can play Hive's AOI mod if you want to become Great Britain and United Kingdom though.
