Playing my first game as England. I pulled out of France expecting to lose my continental holdings and to focus on colonization and trade. France took over all of my holdings (except Calais). However, they never offered terms and I couldn't offer them anything they would accept. We stayed at war for a long time, and I worried about my war exhaustion. Eventually, they offered me a white peace. Any reason for this?

I believe it is because of autonomy, those provinces start off with a little bit of it, meaning they cost less warscore than the ai gets for seigeing them, so they think that "only" asking for you continental possessions is not worth what they have "won" so the AI logic tries and goes for more - but it cant because naval supremacy and so it just waits.

I noticed this myself when I intentionally raised autonomy right before letting france have them, then realised they would not accept, even when i tried to offer them all.

Hmm... This is interesting. I'm starting a new England game soon, I'll try this and see if I get the same results.

I'm assuming Austria or Burgundy DoW on them and caused them to force a peace out with you.
