I agree with the 'Evil Capitalist' that surely the whole point of the game is to see what might happen. I can see that history must have a part but there must be an alternative otherwise you might just as well pick up a history book.

mandate was to determine the cause of their discontent and
report back to the Imperial parliament in London. This report

government (the acceptance by governors of the advice of local

Lower Canada (Quebec), which should be merged into one. The

About the Empress of India events, I find that one really interesting, not in its current form, but as an idea. I edited it a bit so you actually need to own all of India before that event triggers, and when it does trigger, I think we should add some nice benefits (CB shields, reduced province revoltrisk or whatever). Any ideas?

I am a bit of a newbiebut having read the thread I have a couple of extra suggestions for events:
Ilberts Bill: February 1883
At the request of the Indian Viceroy the Marquess of Ripon, a bill was drawn up which gave equal rights in the legislature to Indians, this would have allowed Indian Judges and Magistrates to try whites.
No. We cannot suffer to be ruled by savages.
Revolt risk +2 in India
bad relations with any independant Indian states
Yes we must pass it, the educated Indian's are our equals.
All hindu Indian provinces become British Core provinces and Britain gains Indian culture
Rather than have the Emperess of India event give Britain Indian culture it could be given as a result of Ilberts Bill.
If the Bill is passed you could have:
The Traders Mutiny: October 1883.
Led by J.J.J. 'King' Keswick of Jardine Skinner & Co the British traders rebel and try to kidnap the Viceroy.
Revolts in Bombay and Calcutta
failing to pass Ilberts Bill you get:
The Indian National Congress 1887.
Failure to give Indians equality with their white overlords caused great resentment by 1887 it was clear that the Indian National Congress was not acting as a safety valve for nationalist sentiment but was in fact encouraging it across the whole of India.
Nationalism +2 if thats possible?
Other non Indian events:
Stock markets:
Growing power of the Stock markets
During the 1820s the London Stock Exchange became the rival to Paris as the largest Bourse in the World, with the help of the powerful merchant banking families Britain was able to borrow more money at lower rates of interest to finance it's wars and expansion.
Loans set to 1000 ducats
Tax value +1 in Anglia
Financial might of London
In the 1870s London finally overtook then dwarfed
Paris as the international financial capital. Close ties between the Government and the Stock market allowed for lower interest rates and inflation whilst the powerful and rich banking family the Rothschilds gave the Government access to vast new sources of revenue, allowing massive spending deficits to be run during war time.
Inflation -15
Loans upto 5000 ducats
Tax value +2 in Anglia
The Suez Purchase: Novemeber 1875
With the Egyptian Khedive now bankrupt we can purchase a 49% stake in the Suez canal guaranteeing British interests in the region.
Gives tax value +1 in Anglia to represent the continuing growth in value of the shares and dividends and CB shields across all of Egypt, to represent the reasons for future British adventures in Egypt.
