Energy weapons don't even need a big boost. The Small and Medium Lasers are fine. The Large Laser in my opinion should be 25 or 26 heat. TT is 24 and the current is 30. The PPC is currently 40, with which I would be happy with 35. TT would be 30.

Let's examine that first, a Jagermech with stock armour, 3x AC/5 an enough ammo to last a long time looks like this:

JM6-S

and is heat neutral if it doesn't add its medium lasers to its shot.

While one with 3 large lasers looks like this:

JM6-S

and still gains 6 heat when it alphas.

The AC/5 Jager also has 2 medium lasers on top for a better alpha or to shoot at short range.

lol

Yeah, if you cram the vehicle with mostly heat sinks instead of extra energy weapons, then suddenly the ballistics look better. But if you folks got what you were asking for, you wouldn't need to do that, because the weapons would be heat efficient. So it's rather dishonest to show that kind of build while claiming that energy weapons need to have dramatically reduced heat consumption so you can PPC boat with Awesomes.

I mean, I suppose this is the question to ask then:

What is the required level of heat for a hypothetically 'balanced' PPC in order to do the triple PPC Awesome build? Because you could then reverse-engineer that number and look at how energy weapons perform vs ballistics in this new world.

How dare people PPC boat with Awesomes.

And man, what's up with that missile boating Catapult?

And this King Crab boating AC20s? Not in MY BattleTech! Get out of here with that nonsense!

And I'm saying no, heat is fine. It's different in this game than in TT. PPCs and LLAS are now sniping weapons instead of alpha batteries.

Tabletop has it's problems, specifically the AC/2 and the AC/5 being significantly under powered, and ammo in general being far too combustible. Battletech the video game has none of those issues.

I can't see a specific reason why I would ever choose to take a Large Laser or a PPC over an AC/5 or an LRM 15. You get more bang for your buck with either of the other two options.

I was directly responding to a statement that said that a mech that carried 3 Large Lasers was about as effective as one that carried 3 AC/5. I refuted his argument using facts rather than opinions. Perhaps you might try that at some point?

PPC isn't even that big of a deal because it does cause a penalty to the target and stability damage. The Large Laser doesn't even get those advantages. A small bonus the same as if a weapon was put in the arm. Again, Stability is a big factor in this game, and the fact that the Large Laser can do none with the heat it is generating unbalances it a bit.

Man, you ain't played with TT Awesome cheese.

It is not remotely the same as LRM boating or dealing with AC20s. People want that in the game because it is so transformative to the experience that it has become the only way they understand how to play, to the point where when the option is taken away they declare the game to be 'broken'.

Don't look broken to me. I'll be happy with what I get on the 24th. :)

I used to play stock Victors against Awesomes all the time in TT. Don’t tell me what I have or haven’t played.

TT Awesome, unless custom, cannot continuously fire its PPCs. In most cases, unless you look to severely overheat and cook the mech, an Awesome should fire its PPCs in a 3-3-2-3 or 3-2-3-2 pattern.

And yet available statistical evidence shows that both weapons are outclassed by ballistic weapons.

Heat ain’t even close to being fine, no matter how many times you say it is.

So I can snipe with a PPC and be close to heat neutral (though admittedly not quite) with just baseline HS for 50 damage, or I can snipe with an AC/5 for 40 damage. While also surrendering twice the tonnage of the PPC.

'Statistically outclassed'.

Still go back to the argument that iconic mech designs should be reasonably viable.

The Awesome 3ppc build currently isn't really viable due to heat. The alpha looks nice. The stab and debugging it causes look nice. I would give up a bit of all of that take the heat issue be a bit less.

As for folks who seem to have an issue with PPC boat builds I wonder if they have considered the fact that lrm boats will their new issue. If you haven't watched sidestrafe last long stream he is able to use an lrm 15 lrm 20 cat to make enemies unstable in one salvo. Tap them with an srm6 and they fall over for pilot DMG. Let them get back up and you repeat.. do it 3 or 4 times and you got a new shiny mech. Now that is cheese.

Isn't the AC-5 45 damage? Was in Cohh's and Bombadil's streams. Last one I watched was Cohh's 3rd stream.
The numbers you saw may have been for plus DMG versions of those weapons or been a different build than the one the as is built off of. Either way don't be surprised if things move a bit by release.

It's clear both the Large Laser and PPC need small (maybe -5 - maybe a bit more for the PPC) heat buffs. LRMs probably need a small. stability nerf as well.

The weapons are overall actually pretty close to being well balanced; the devs did a good job.
