Right now it appears that the safest route to go in MP is to just spamm corvettes while ignoring energy alltogether.
Yea you get a -50% combat penalty but that's ignorable if you have 4x as many ships as the enemy.
My suggestion is to let the energy deficit scale, like:
-10 energy = -10% penalty, -70 energy = -70% penalty up to 100%.
