Hi there,

It happens repeatedly that enemies use indirect missile fire on my mechs from even beyond sensor range.

Thre are zero enemy units within visual range, zero enemy units within senor range (no turrets, no vehicles, no mechs, no sensor lock) and yet it happens again and again that missiles are raining down on my mechs.

How is this possible?

Line of sight isn't equal both ways as it will depend on multiple factors involving. Perhaps they are higher up than you. It is impossible to tell from just the info in your post.

Also are you playing the vanilla game (no mods)?

I've had a couple of missions (post UW) in which this has happened to me. I remember one Assassination mission in which I killed the supporting lance (and the target was several turns of sprinting away and at a lower elevation) and the target kept shooting LRMs at me (and destroyed a badly damaged side torso on one mech which I thought was safe).

My best theory at the time was that the map had a couple of buildings on it, which I had thought were just landscape, but perhaps those were the reason why I was considered within sensor range. But it was very mysterious.

I know that about line of sight. But i'm pretty sure that's not it. The enemies ar often lower than my units and to my understanding line of sight is never longer than even my sensor range.
And no mods in my game.

Do you have the Urban Warfare expansion? Could they be under ECM cover?

No ECM cover. I tried to verify that before posting. And it also happened before Urban Warfare but recently it just became more frequent (mayby coincidence).

What you describe is exactly the situation when this happens to me most times (but not the only situation). I also checked for buildings but could not see any.
And the thing about buildings: Do they actually count as units for granting line of effect?

Well best thing would be to get the necessary files and report it as a bug when it occurs if you think it isn't working correctly.

I thought about that too. What would be the necessary files in this case?

I am 99.8% sure that light and medium mechs have better spotting ranges than heavies and assaults. That is an oft overlooked detail. It is always possible that something sees you and you do not see them. Are you "punching down" in difficulty?

If you do not even see *blips*, then yeah, things might be wonky.

OP, do you have the little red "eye" icon on your machine taking fire when you move that indicates you can be seen by an enemy? Either way, sounds like a bug to me if you don't have any hostiles on sensors or in visual range. Can't say I've experienced it myself, so can't really help you further I'm afraid.

If you can't get them on sensors, they won't be able to see you, there's not a map in the game that I'm aware of that has that much vertical elevation. Very much sounds like a bug since you'd assume OP would spot anything parked inside sensor range that had LOS to him.

As above, OP mentioned that there's nothing in sensor range - sounds like a big.
