I'm fine with 101 years of gameplay. :) Plus, if Paradox makes an expansion they could make the game run from 1821-1936 (115 years). :D And that's plenty of game time too have fun with, IMO.

If you just lift the time limit and make no effort to add new techs, simulate new developments in society, make appropriate economic changes, etc., the game will go to sillyland pretty quickly. I guess you might want a couple extra years to complete your goals, but I don't see the importance of putting it into the base game..

Now, while you're saying "importance" do you think of V2 as a game or as a historical simulator? :) That would define the ideological preferences on this issue...

Fact is, there are just as many people who want to keep on playing as there are people who think they're done when the window saying "You're done" appears...

Dare I say even more...

Exactly, to be honest there wasn't too many games that I've played to 1936, in fact most of my games ends in 1900 or close to this date, cos' I usually became bored with my country around this date :).

I didn't play past 1900 because I would become depressed that it would all end relatively soon and I'd spare myself the disappointment... Building an Empire for a couple of more decades until the game decides that I've had my fun... an exercise in futility :D

the end date is scripted so if you just want to keep on playing the only thing required would be to change a line in a text file (if i remember correctly)

I wouldn't mind if there's no option to have a NTL mode, so long as the converter to HoI3 does a good job this time I'll be happy to come to the end of the game and then play on to Phase 2 - The HoI Age.

If I remember correctly, there were some grievous technical problems arising from that?

EU3 would crash if you ran out of tech to research. Vicky uses a different system, though. Did anyone ever test it with HOI3?

Funny you should bring this up. I was thinking the almost identical thing yesterday, between working trouble tickets here at work.

I would love it if the game were simply open-ended enough and moddable enough that we could create a user mod that would take us through the interwar period, through WWII and beyond.

But, goodness gracious, what an ambitious project that would be! It would make VIP look like a short walk in the park by comparison. Wowzers!

The coolness factor of the dream is totally worth it, though.:p

ok, it would definitely be nice to have all options open for potential modding projects, so I would as well like PI to implement the option of playing beyond the end-date, but since I don't know what technical problems might arise with this, I hope they'll rather spent their time on making the original span as brilliant as possible, than to figure out a NTL-option, if that takes more than a few hours...

i think that an unlimited time option would be incomplete if the research is not extendable.

if possible, it could be very cool to have this unlimited option by the end of the game _ingame_ and adding levels in techs so that after, qué se yo, barrel cannon or what ever, you keep investigation and in second round, so to speak, you have the possiblitiy to advance to barrel cannon2. That way it might be much fun.
some cases it would make sense or not but for gaming purposes it would haddle the extension pretty well.

I would hope that this would be a given, but just in case it is not, I will second the motion.
