EU2 and Vicky were considerably better than HoI1/2 or CK were in this regard. EU2, at the end showed, the divvy up of all the Vicktory points, showing you how your empire has fared throughout the game. Vicky, even better, shows all kinds of info at the end. (or when you quit).

I'd like to see EUIII take it to the next logical step. Let's see some real details that make you go "Huh, neat." when you quit or finish a game. Casualty Numbers, Wars, Historic Alliances, Details on your economy, Details on your military, details on your rulers (EUII had a nice one in the ledger), ect. ect. ect. The more the better.

Some sort of movie or custom text, or something would be pretty cool. A little closure has always been missing in Paradox games, and since its clear Paradox wants to take the series to the next level, this might be a good idea.

Have the game finish on the first state to suffer a French style revolution.
Build the game in such a way that the chances of such a revolution increase as technical and social matters change as well as a date factor and a random factor. If you are past 1789 the chances increase - before the date there is a negative modifier.

Then have a nice French revolution style screen.

:D Yes - when you reach the game-end period with the highest number of victory points, the baroque late-game music should suddenly change to 'Ça Ira', and a digitised Sans-Culotte will jump up shaking his fist and shouting "À bas les aristos! À la lanterne!"

Then you'll get an in-game message saying, "Despite your efforts to found a great dynastic empire, you have been overcome by the Iron Laws of Historical Necessity."

But then Victory points will need to be relevant. In EU2 I believe could have been much better in this regard. Lets hope they make a better VP system for this game. I know that they will succeed with the gameplay... cause they are Paradox... the only thing I'm worried about is the VP system.

I want it to end with a big white light and then a purple text that says:
You did good, unfortunatly the Byzantines did better, they killed you and took over the world, better luck next time!

And with a little ninja in the right corner. That'll be nice.

It would be good if they had something like Lesov's Holy World Factbook

http://www.lesov.com/factbook.php

The old victory point system wasnt very good especially when some nations got lots of VP's from event choices that would still be the best coice without the vp's.

But yep, I think the game needs better end-game closure (and I think EU2 was not that good). After playing a lot of hours, I think something better than a simply tally of points could be nice.

For myself, I always found nice the close of Civ 2, when you launched your spaceship to Alpha Centauri.

Having an endgame movie would be fine, as it can be good for eyecandy purposes (which is welcome after many hours of play, once in a while), and it would be even better as long as they also continue to give the player access to the usual set of stats and information (if not more/better information, as has been suggested).

I'm not sure how the ending part could be improved other than showing more statitics and a detailed comparision table. The problem is there are too many countires and too many variables in this kind of game.

I'd like to see an ending based my level of achievement. If I had large world spanning empire with high stability I would get a moive or at least a text explaing how the dutch empire went on to rule the world for next 300 years. However if was a large but weak country like say austria the moive or text would go to explain how the empire was too poor unstable and divided and would collapse in the next 100 years. The movie or text you get would be based your total enomonic military power and level of stability thorought the game.

Too much work though I think to have fun alternate history endings as I've descirbed.

My wish would be to have some sort of "History review".. where you see a movie based on the 3d engine showing your nations expansions, historic highpoints, biggest battle etc.. and depending on score, some sort of deep voiced dude stating "It is the greatest empire the world has ever seen..." etc..

Unless done right that would get old quickly, particularly the voice-over bit.
