i think adding an expansion that allows the game to go on beyond 48 with that era equipment and technologies with be worth its wait in gold.

Perhaps include some custom scenarios like the real scenario with Germany defeated 45', Russia defeated in 42', England defeated in 41', Japan conquers Pacific 42', etc.

Hearts of iron is not really designed for long games. If you change the end date it could also be a good idea to change the start date.

Nope, a game with an engine built completely around WW2 will not and cannot ever have a Cold War DLC. At best you can hope for timeline extension to 1952 if at all.

I see what you are saying. There would be drawbacks with an expansion for a Cold War game vs a true dedicated new game for the Cold War.

That said, I think you overstate it. HoI moved on since Hoi3. They already made it more sandbox.

All that is there can be extended for a Cold War. It just needs an espionage system and a more complex proxy war system.

I respectfully disagree. You can say the conflicts through out the early 30's (Spain, Ethiaopia, Albania, and Finland) were not "world" conflicts but reminiscent of Cold War era conflicts. (Korea, Vietnam, And Afghanistan).

It looks like major powers can include themselves in proxy wars beyond world war 2 with the volunteer and lend lease programs. Granted these wars need to be scripted, like SCW, but completely possible. Like pre WW2, you can include yourself in other countries disputes.

And most important, if consumers are intersted in a starting scenario in post WW2.

Some of the customers from what I have seen on HOI3 forums are interested in a WW1 starting scenario also... So that being said, if they expand the starting and ending dates that allow for changes between... OR create an actual game that models WW1 better from 1880-1920 and then do a HOI from 1920-1960... We could see a greater improvement on games. Just my opinion though. Just mill on that before replying please. :D

There was East VS West though, and it was discontinued. If they are ever going to create content for cold war again, there is 99% chance that it will be a new, standalone game rather than an expansion for HoI4.
