I had to reload cause i walked away and left the game running when i went to the shop and things went bad. anyway my reload was 11 months back and the same colony ship was still on couse to colonise the same world only this time i didnt get a demand to remove the colony. (not FA btw) i owuld have thought this was set and not something down to chance.

It's not random, but a colony pushed the border out depending on population numbers.

That means you may colonise a world nearby without issue, but as the number of pops rises above a certain treshold, the growing border will then anger the FE into telling you to GTFO. Afaik they may even demand several planets to be cleansed (how it decides which ones need to go I do not know, but there might be some info about which planets contributed to the border growth that the AI might use to determine this, or maybe it just picks the 4 closest to teach you a lesson :p)

TL.DR.: Your border expanded to intolerable levels due to pop growth.

We are talking about the Diplomatic Events added with 1.3 (I think). If so, this is the code for it:

Code:

    id = diplomatic.21
    title = "diplomatic.21.name"
    desc = "diplomatic.21.desc"

                    has_communications = root.owner

It is indeed mostly random. Those events were added as an early attempt to make tall gameplay more interesting, but they mostly fell flat.

It is explicitly not a FE case. And that case will be fixed in 1.5, btw. It will be real colonies, not border pressure anymore.

Btw, the event has a 10/200 chance of being triggered everytime you make a colony according to the on_action triggers:
Code:
# A planet has begun the colonization process.
# Scope = Planet
on_colonization_started = {
    events = {
        advisor.17
        progress.3
    }
    random_events = {
        190 = 0

        10 = diplomatic.21
    }
}

Ahhh, you mean the bog standard "other empire whines about your colony" thing.

It happens so rarely I actually forgot it existed, lol. Not that it matters, as I never actually disassembled one due to their petulant demands anyways. The AI never cares if they steal a system I wanted with their borders, so why should I?
