Had a very nice game start, however now after 50 years i discovered some xenophobic ascendant empire that humiliated me with "encroaching borders". However, my closest system is about 12 jumps away, so it has to be one of my systems with unexplored wormholes. Is there any way to find out which system ? I would hate to trash this run, they could at least tell me which system they consider encroaching (ironman, no trial and error. Also one wormhole system would cut my empire in two (another has some 1000+ alloy border fortifications). Any advise (except restart)?

Well, I believe if you refuse to disband it, they declare war and, if you surrender to that war, they forcibly remove the offending outpost, no?

Alternative is trial and error to remove one wormhole outpost at a time, see if that pleases them, and then put it back if it's not the one. It's probably not the 'would cut your empire in two' wormhole, as you imply you know where that one leads.

I don't know where that one leads, don't have the tech. But its in a border system to my rival that also connects the two parts of the empire - 4 arm spiral galaxy so there is no other way (so far). I guess the next time they threaten war i will just go for war and instantly surrender to see which systems he wants gone.

Nah, he means the unexplored wormhole is in a chokepoint system half-way along his empire not that he's built on both sides of the wormhole.

Refuse, have war declared, surrender, offending system purged, lose your admiral and influence production looks to be the best option.

Can't you just give in to the initial demand to stay off their lawn? I seem to recall that doing so removes the offending outpost automatically, without actually having to be war decced and getting humiliated (surrender kills your ruler and applies the influence penalty).

Unfortunately not. I accepted their demand in the hope this would solve the problem. But now i'm just humiliated, have peace and still the encroaching modifier so after peace is up the same thing will repeat...

After answering, the same thing happened to me. I gave into the demand, then manually dismantled the offending outpost. That solved their butthurt.
