Paradox Stellaris Developers, I hope you give this a serious consideration.
Something that I frequently run into in early game, and while a small thing initially - I'm also thinking of the new-to-game players on this, that nearly all play throughs have events that result in discovering ships from other aliens, that become free ships added to your navy. The logic flow (think of a Flow Chart) that then branches off from this discovery of a never-seen-before-ship with next-gen technology, simply doesn't add up as sensible. However, I'm hoping that this discussion helps put sense toward a combination of two issues surrounding discovered ships.
1. Merge Fleet problems. When you bring that discovered ship back to your Capitol planet where your main fleet is typically stationed (sometimes just basic Corvettes only, early in game), the problem is, this new/different ship is not allowed to perform a Merge Fleet action to put all of your current ships into a single fleet. I find this unnecessarily limiting.
Why should I be limited in what is an administrative, military decision to merge a fleet? This isn't a technical decision. It's only about employing a new, different ship to fly in formation with all my other navy ships. That's not difficult to do, and doesn't require research into next-gen technology. Are we being restricted from a "Merge Fleet" action just because we haven't researched that particular ship type yet? You don't have to scientifically understand how to BUILD a thing, to incorporate a thing. Think: 17th Century Native Americans were trained to use muskets and then flint-lock rifles, even though they couldn't manufacture them at the time.
2. No logical flow to show follow-on scientific break-throughs, and research bonuses, related to all the next-gen equipment discovered on this new spaceship. While a tertiary issue, if this newly discovered ship that I've made operational and now flying about in my military -- if I'm actually able to crew this ship, have my engineers aboard and checking it out and operating it, then - why don't I get some Research bonus or accelerated % buff to research that type of Ship Upgrade in my Research queue? In fact, why doesn't it trigger the equivalent of scanning enemy destroyed ship debris that gives Research points and a category to research in my queue? For that matter - this isn't just debris, this is actual, fully installed and operational equipment on an operational ship, and not even debris. Think about that for a moment. We get more of a bonus for scraps of metal floating around in space, than having actual operational hardware on our own ship that has been discovered and made a part of our navy.
I find the "discovered ship" events to be an "Incomplete Story" from many vantage points, almost like Lore in a video game that hasn't been fully written with all necessary details. The Stellaris developers could really turn these events into a longer chain of events, and bonuses along the way, but especially could fix the Merge Fleet issues that linger once finding them.
