Empress died in battle???

How on Earth did my empress manage to die in battle? She wasn't even there. I had a bunch of other rulers who managed to get wounded without even being on the battlefield. Did anyone else face this problem? I never had this before The Reaper's Due.

Currently I'm playing with Wales and my Queen can lead an army. But i don't know how, because i didn't change the Status of Women

All rulers are allowed to lead armies. You do have the option to not lead troops though.

Even though she wasn't leading the flank, she was likely leading a group of troops.

I didn't change it either and she obviously wasn't leading an army, yet she died in battle!

Not only the main 3 leaders shown may be leading troops. If you want for your ruler not to lead any troops you have to block them from doing so by using the button on the characters screen.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I thought if you don't put them among three army leaders you are good.

Absolutely not. There aren't many examples of female rulers leading armies during medieval times, but there are enough.

EDIT: To be honest there are fewer examples of female empresses of the bizantines than of female rulers leading armies...

Emperor Julian died fighting Persians

Emperor Valens died in the battle of Adrianople (although technically not in battle as he was burned alive while seeking shelter in an abandoned hut)

Emperor Nikephoros I died in the battle of Pliska

And of course Emperor Constantine XI who died during the fall of Constantinople

Plus one Emperor who was captured by the enemy Romanos IV.

That too but the way i am thinking it it was the perfect end for a 1000+ years Empire. One last stand for the honour of the Empire. Died with sword in hands as befitting an Emperor.

There are plenty of women throughout history who have lead armies into battle. Sure it's rare, but not so strange.

That's indeed the rarest thing, the Byzatine Empire only had one Empress in a thousand years of history. There are more examples of women leading armies in this time period.
