About info popups - it would be very helpful to have race image attached to the name of empire. Because, it takes time to remember all these fancy names and they can even change!
And empire's nicknames. Can there be some hidden mechanics, that monitors the actions of empires and if some limit reached - empire receive a nickname? For example, if empire purges a lot it can be called X Empire of Dark Blood or something. And in the info popup, the main text will be like Dark Blood declares war on X. With full name displayed in small font. That way you can immediately remember these guys and don't waste time scrolling the map with thoughts "who the hell are these people and what's going on?".
After receiving a nickname AI players will be forced to maintain it and will try to "roleplay" their new names (so, more purging for "purging" guys, if that's possible). Every time name is earned all hidden parameters necessary to obtain it will go up, leaving others more accessible.
This will add some personality to the AI (not only cosmetic, but behavioral too). For human player earning a nickname can be source of interesting events and projects (for example - change of image). Or even have impact on diplomacy and factions.
