Chapter XIV: The Italian Golden Age
1668-1701

A golden age had begun in Italy, whose end was not in sight. Development occurred all over Italy, particularly in the colonies. Wealth flowed from the colonies, and the Italian people flocked to them. Rome saw its reawakening as the capital of Western civilization. Great architectural projects began, including the building of colleges and universities:

A great military academy was built to train future generals.

Italy has its place in the sun, and more. The purpose of building a military academy in Rome and recruiting new troops was not to go to war, but to defend the country. Very few wars were expected in the future, but Italy must remain vigilant.

If we were to expect goodwill from other countries, however, we had to repair Italy's reputation. The unification process and the establishment of a colonial empire had severely damaged Italy's reputation. The Italian Senate agreed, and to this end we joined the Holy Roman Empire:

We were even offered electorship - which we readily accepted.

During this golden age Italy became a united country. Greater than 3/4 of those under Italian rule were themselves Italian - and all were Protestants. The total dominance of the Northern Italians became so apparent that Rome itself became Lombard:

[In fact, the only accepted culture in Italy now is Lombard]

Italy also saw a resurgence of trade. Other colonial powers had obscene profits from the East Indies, and we sought a share of them as well. We quickly conquered Ceylon from the backwards Assam to serve as the base of operations for an Italian East India Company.

Everything is in place now for Italy to grow only wealthier and more powerful.

Oi, a new golden era for Italy!
Lombard culture died in the 11th century. :D
The northen italians just think they are lombards. ;)

Why hasn't byzant yet annexed its vassals???

well sorry to dissappoint you all but nothing happened (again) im still opting for stabilisation before i can even think about attacking anyone and frankly i dont see much use in it anymore. Byzants are rapidly increasing their income to the level of Russia. Russia is sprinting ahead with its land tech to reach Espirit d'corps soon enough, at least sooner then Italy. Russia and italy are in a constant arms race though russia wins in most cases :D

Why is England independent from GB?????
